Somewhere outside, sheep bleated faintly across the hills. Asa stood balanced on the balls of their feet trying to reach the highest shelf of the bookcase, muttering softly to themself as they attempted to decide whether nineteenth-century theology belonged beside stage magic memoirs or the Dickens.
Anthony watched them for a long moment. Watched the familiar crease appear between their brows. Watched them push their sleeves up absently with ink-stained fingers. Watched them settle themselves into this strange little cottage as though they had always belonged here.
Oh, he thought. I’m going to marry them.
