Summary
Pyro wishes he could say that he was surprised when he was called to his father's study. If it had been the usual song and dance of the Von Pyroscythe residence, he would have been.
His parents rarely sought him out or even gave him the time of day when it wasn't to keep up appearances. Pyro still clung onto those moments, no matter how disingenuous, but this wasn't that. Mother and father wouldn't have bothered calling him home from university if it was.
So, when his father told him to meet him, Pyro already had a sinking feeling that things were going to go wrong.

Summary
The song picked up into a jauntier melody. Despite her aching muscles, Jaiden found her feet tapping along as she straightened up.
“Oh, I know this one!” Charlie exclaimed, wincing as he stood up to join Jaiden by the radio. Although she was the worst off in their group for lingering injuries, Charlie was right behind her, his skin also an array of purples and blues from the two of them taking turns beating each other to death.
Jaiden smiled at his enthusiasm. “Yeah, it’s a fun one, right?” When Charlie nodded, she found herself extending a hand towards him. “You wanna dance with me then?”
Charlie raised an eyebrow. “Dude, I’m like, in so much fucking pain right now. Aren’t you?”
“Sure am!” Jaiden quipped, wincing as she lifted her arms to start swaying from side to side. “But who cares, man? We’re trapped in a fucking death game. Why not dance?”
Considering this for a moment, Charlie glanced between the radio and Jaiden’s bruised face. Then, he looked back at her outstretched hand.
“Eh, fuck it. Why not?”

“I didn’t invite anyone,” Mumbo defended himself.
Grian only rolled his eyes, disappearing from the counter to appear a few moments later in the kitchen doorway. “Want me to check it out?”
“No!” Mumbo immediately rushed to the doorway, stopping only when he would have to go through Grian to go any further. “I can check, it’s fine.”
Tilting his head, Grian asked innocently, “Why can’t I? They wouldn’t even see me. It might be someone you don’t want to talk to. If you answer it, they’d know you’re here, but if I did….”
“Yes, well, it could also be someone I do want to talk to, and you would scare them away because of that.”
Grian responded with an exaggerated offended gasp. “I can’t believe you would accuse me of that, Mumbolio.”
Another knock rang out, interrupting the exchange before Mumbo could make a retort. Instead, he sighed. “Please let me through.”
