He of course didn't say that. Ilya sucked in a breath
"You can do whatever you want. You just have to talk to us, about it. Ballet, Painting, Ice skating? whatever-"
Masha looked amused. He met Ilya's eyes again and muttered back, almost in disbelief
"Ice skating?"
"Da. But we're gonna have to ask for back up. I'm sure your aunt Sveta, or your grandma know more."
He breathed a little easier. He would take his teenager mocking him playfully, than hate. Any day.
