    Summary

"Why don't you want to take your shirt off?" he finally asks and feels John stiffen against him.

"It's nothing," comes the tense answer and Sherlock raises himself up on an elbow so that he can see John's face properly. He tries to figure out what he is seeing in John's eyes. There is something like apprehension there but it runs deeper than that. Fear? But what would John have to fear?

"Don't do that," John says suddenly, tipping his head away from Sherlock to hide his face.

    Sherlock frowns. "Don't do what?"

"Don't analyse me. Don't deduce me."

No fewer than three times by the winter of 1883 had I heard Sherlock Holmes disparage the ways of lovers and their irrational tendencies toward writing letters. With this often and loudly-expressed opinion in mind, I was very surprised indeed to find a stack of unsent, unsealed letters in a drawer in his desk.

He'd heard talk of it over and over again in Flea Bottom, how there were few people in the world with a soulmate. People who were born half of another, and saw the world in shades of grey. They would only be blessed by the gods with color once they found and touched their soulmate, to complete both halves of their whole.

Of course, in a world like Westeros, the odds of finding your soulmate, let alone managing to hold on to them, is very slim. As Dunk is about to discover.
