Mike had never been the best at the whole regulating emotions healthily thing, but there was only so much Nancy would take.
It was painfully clear that he was distraught, and Nancy was sure she knew why. Will Byers, the love of his life, the boy Mike has been in love with since he was six, officially moved out of their house.
The Byers were living with them for at least two months until they received a surprising amount of hush slash “sorry about all this, I really didn’t think this would happen” money from a certain Sam Owens, and bought back their old house. The family who lived there was just happy to get it off their hands and get out of Hawkins, which was very reasonable considering the town was collapsing in on itself.

“Hey, Mike, you’re back,” Nancy announces, a tinge of something he can’t quite grasp entangled in her voice. The others turn to where Mike is standing. Will looks like he has just heard the worst news of his life.
“Guys? What’s going on?” He asks, a panic slowly beginning to rise in his chest.
“Listen,” Nancy begins,” Dad was reading this earlier at lunch,” she picks up a brochure from the coffee table, “And he seemed pretty enthusiastic about it”. She fumbles with the pages in her hands before hesitantly handing it over to Mike.
He takes the brochure and reads the front cover, New Life Bible Camp, June 20Th -August 1st.

He barely managed to lay eyes on her before hands clamped down onto his arms and shoulders, and chaos erupted around them once again. Guns flew up as fists were thrown, and distantly, Mike heard his name among cries and other yelling, but when he lunged toward his friends, the hands on him tightened, preventing him from running to them.
It took him another second to realize they weren't just holding him back. They were pulling him away.
Post El's "death," Mike and the rest of the party are detained by Dr. Kay and the military. When Mike is separated from them, he is forced to deal with an off-the-rails Dr. Kay and an angry Sergeant holding a grudge.

For the most part, Mike is a normal guy. Yeah he's nerdy, but overall he's pretty average. He has decent grades, he's in a DND club, and he's in a loving relationship with his girlfriend, Jane Hopper.
Well, he WAS in a relationship with Jane before she dumped him. But the thing is, Mike doesn't really care. Yeah he's a bit upset, but to be honest he thinks they're just better off as friends. But after his parents see his reaction to Jane breaking up with him, they start putting the pieces together, and begin to think that maybe their son isn't so normal as he seems.
OR: a Byler but I'm a cheerleader au where Mike is sent to conversion camp where he and will reunite after almost two years of not seeing each other after Lonnie got custody of will.

Mike has been reliant on heat suppressants ever since he first presented in winter of 1986. He hasn't been in heat since his first one all the way back in February. Unfortunately for him, that means that the second he misses a day thanks to the shortages of everything the apocalypse brings, his body immediately goes into the worst heat he's ever experienced (which isn't saying much) to compensate for it.
