“Who do you pray to, Lord Commander?” Rinh asked him before she left his manor, again under the cover of dark and the desire of the faithful to believe that, in the absence of an insurmountable enemy, they were still chosen. Aymeric had tugged on a lock of his short hair.
“Is it not obvious?” he asked. His expression had been unreadable. She slipped into the dark. It wasn’t.
After everything they fought for, the Church still demands that the seat of the Archbishop cannot remain empty and all eyes turn to Aymeric. This isn't the future the Warrior of Light thought she'd put her mantle down to nurture, but she's surely followed him through more and worse.

He loved it when Aymeric used him like this, wringing pleasure from his body and praising him for how well he took it. He’d never cared about goodness, only about duty, and vengeance, and the cleansing fire of bloodlust singing in his veins, but when the Lord Commander sang his praises and sighed out his name he thought perhaps he could understand the appeal.
