Dunk is looking at Aerion, but Aerion is avoiding his gaze. Red-rimmed, teary eyes fixed on his brother only, and Dunk can see his hands shaking where they’re resting in his lap. He tries to reach for them, to cup Aerion’s fingers in his own, but Aerion pulls away as though Dunk’s touch burns.
“What’s he talking about?” Dunk asks, thoroughly confused.
Daeron looks between the two of them and scoffs, “Come on, brother, you’ve surely told your fiancé about the time you—”
And before he can finish, Aerion is jumping across the table, quick and vicious as a feral cat, an ugly roar tearing out of him as he lunges with hands aimed for his brother's neck.

Aerion looked up at the roof above him before letting his eyes close gently. Suddenly, he was back in the Ashford mud, looking up at the hedge knight. He only had one blue eye open, but it contained enough anger and resentment for Aerion, enough to haunt Aerion for the lingering months since then.
“Yield,” the hedge knight had demanded.
Aerion Brightflame had been struck with fear, violet eyes stained with tears. He opened his mouth, letting the regretful words fall out.
I yield.
Aerion’s eyes remained closed, his breathing sharp. His mouth hung open, and one word slipped out, a name that Aerion had sworn to forget before it would burn him alive.
“Duncan.”
Months have passed since Aerion Targaryen had returned back to King's Landing, but the events of Ashford had not left him. Desperate to prove himself, or looking for some escape, he drinks wildfire. But he did not turn into a dragon. Instead, it only burned him. Left in all the mess he has made, there is only one name he will speak, only one man he wishes to see, one knight he knows will have it in him to bring him death.

“He is not a bastard, Your Grace,” Duncan said, his voice steadier than he felt. “He has Prince Aerion's dragon blood, and that is enough.”
When Duncan is sent to Lys to bring Aerion back to Summerhall four years after his exile, he does not expect to find the once-arrogant prince working in a brothel to fend for a bastard child who looks oddly familiar. Prince Maekar does not take the news kindly.
