If it had taken place mere hours ago, severe lesions and wounds should have made moving in the slightest an unbearable chore. Yet, despite his sore arms and legs, he felt in pretty good health.

    Jack let himself sink down on the couch, his right hand going back and forth through his mustache hair. Had he really traveled back in time? The thought made his hair stand on end. Yet, he saw no other explanation for whatever was happening, and the more he thought about it, the more any other explanation that might have bloomed into his mind instantly withered."

    “Ennis,” Jack whispers, and it sounds like a prayer. “Ennis, you’re the most wonderful thing I ever saw.”

    Ennis moans, shaking his head, trying to hide it by pressing a kiss into Jack’s collarbone.

    “It’s true,” Jack insists. “Swear down.” He strokes Ennis’ hair softly.

    Ennis closes his eyes and leans into it like an old dog.

    “You’re all I ever wanted,” Ennis whispers back, soft enough he can pretend it’s the wind.
