Bakugou had long taken off Kirishima’s hoodie by the time he trudged downstairs, having folded it up perfectly and left it on Kirishima’s bed shortly after walking out of his room. Only when he’d put it down had he noticed it was the same bright red colour as the bedsheets and the idiot’s hair, as the Crimson Riot posters and too light for the ketchup stain on the sleeve. The scent of Kirishima had clung to it still, not yet properly overwritten by his own burnt sugar stench.
He’d stared at it too long.

Like putting your hands under warm water once they’d lost all their feeling: burning, painful in a way that made you want to pull away but you knew you had to endure or you’d never warm up again. He’d been expecting relief, or at the very least to be happy to be back, and… he was. Kind of. But the common room full of excited extras talking about their holidays was not something he thought he could deal with right now.

Midoriya actually took the time to look at the picture critically, though he shot an uneasy look towards Kirishima before he answered. “Umm, y-yeah,” he said as he started to back away, hiding behind Uraraka like a shield. “It definitely looks like Kacchan is in love.”

It was supposed to be said quietly, to his father, as he walked away towards his room. The school had called again, ratting him out for “bullying.” Whatever. He didn’t care.
“Dear, he’s only six years old,” Masaru replied, a sigh in his voice. Bakugou had stopped walking to listen to their conversation. “Give him some time.”
Katsuki heard his mom “hmph” before turning back to the dishes. When he realized they were done, he continued his silent walk to his room.
And he couldn’t understand why, as he curled up in the sheets to sleep, why his heart hurt.

At 4 years old, Katsuki’s quirk manifests. Little white sparks fly from his fingertips, warm and sharp and fuzzy.
It is this moment that solidifies the image of Bakugou Katsuki. A clay molded and scored by clumsy and unthinking fingers. Their fingerprints say “Amazing” and "Powerful” and “Awesome”. They don't view the dents they leave as mistakes, barely even notice the cracks he forms as he's heated up too quickly.
To little Katsuki, it all means the same thing. That he is meant for something great.

He remembers the understanding his mothers, his family and even his teachers had long before he could catch up.
