Summary
Season 4 AU:
Merlin's carried Arthur's sigil around everywhere after being entrusted with it. One day he runs into trouble, where the wrong people discover the sigil, and he gets mistaken as Arthur's husband. While Merlin's life is being ransomed and Arthur is freaking out back in Camelot, Merlin manages to escape but doesn't know that he is now considered the king's consort. Cue shenanigans. -

After revealing his magic, Merlin promised his king that he would tell him if he was hurt or needed help. The aftermath of an assassination attempt sent him, injured, stumbling into Arthur's chambers to fulfill his promise. Once he did that, he figured he could finish getting ready for the visiting delegation and wrap up his chores. He wasn't sure why Arthur was being so weird about it. He was only lightly shot.
