Gregor knew what he was doing when He read the Prophecy of time.
'When the monster's blood is spilled,'
It was easy to know of the terrifying Bane's fate. Or at least imagine. But that was only to become real, if Gregor succeeded in what he must do. The white rat must fall by none other than the Warrior's hand and blade, or the Underland will fall. He never liked Sandwich's prophecies. Because those he knew, he loved, he held close, were hurt at its cost.
'When the warrior has been killed,'
Even the thought of it made his heart thump a little harder in his chest. It was like Sandwich was determined to seal his fate as well. It seemed so ironic. The hero giving his life to protect a kingdom in peril. Gregor felt like his stomach was a pit, sucking in his confidence and and reason, and vomiting a sinking feeling of dread for his own well-being.
