“You’re in a cage,” the kid observes, tilting his head at a just slightly wrong angle. Danger, danger— “Do you want to get out?”
The fading sunlight from the tiny barred window set high in the wall catches on his face, in his eyes, and Zoro is suddenly sure that they are not and have never been black. They’re a dark, dark, dark red, and there’s a light behind them that sets his teeth on edge.
Zoro is suddenly sitting up straight, hands itching for a hilt.
“I don’t make deals with devils,” he says.
History is out of joint, the seas have risen, and the World Government is at endless war against devils from humanity's darkest imaginings.
No better time to set sail.

Someone sits down beside him, and he spares only a brief sideways glance to confirm its identity, though he barely needs to. The roiling mass of shackled souls, all but radiating chaotic pain and anger, could be no one other than the homunculus his son is traveling with. The creature is quieter than it was earlier when they first met, but he feels its eyes on his skin nonetheless. He keeps his gaze on the fire, feels his shoulders tighten a little against his will.
“So, you’re Ed’s dad, huh?”
He starts, despite himself.
That’s a different voice.
Just before the Promised Day, Hohenheim meets a boy beside a fire.

They all skip the Sadie Hawkins dance.
Pretty much every school dance these days has some nasty connotation - thanks to Giles and Willow’s archive-combing expertise, Buffy knows that the 1975 homecoming dance was crashed by monster rabbits, that in 1942 prom was overrun by fish men, that even the short-lived Winter Fling invited some unwanted yetis into the gym in 1966. But this is different, and worse, and besides, Buffy explains on their way back to her house, all four teens stuffed in Cordelia’s car between garlic and pocket-sized Bibles (“what? Why wouldn’t they drive vampires away?”), if Angel wants to go for a second round after…all that, he’d have to break through the barrier first.
So, four-person sleepover. Willow popping a CD of Oz’s band’s music into the player and being the only one to sing along. Xander, asleep as soon as they enter the car. Cordelia complaining about how fine, maybe she shouldn’t have taken that Band-Aid off as soon as she did, because now her face is bleeding again and it’s gross.
