Summary
It was all finally coming to an end. The Normandy and its crew were far, far away now. And the moment was coming fast. The Crucible was ready, or, well, as ready as it could be given the situation the galaxy was in. The Reapers wouldn't be a threat to another cycle ever again, and Shepard was going to see it through. He may not get to see the sun rise over a free and recovering Earth again, but everyone would finally be safe from galactic extinction. He's already died once, this time he's ready for it fully.
At least, that's how he thought it would be turning out. But that wasn't the case, not this time. Because just as he thought he'd die once and for all, he was plucked out of time by someone with ulterior motives and offered a deal he couldn't possibly refuse. Seems the story of Commander Sheperd would be longer than expected, he just hopes the new chapters go better than the last ones.

ONI and UNSC HighCom had thought it was some sort of Flood mutation. Or something Flood-like. But they had assumed wrong. It hadn't resisted capture as much as was predicted. It was still a humanoid. It spoke and thought freely. It was more of a he, and he preferred to be called Alex Mercer. This is what caught Doctor Halsey's attention. He was alive, he wasn't human, she wanted to understand someone like that while ONI wanted to use him as a weapon. So a deal was struck.
Under the vigilant guard of the Master Chief, Halsey would get to interview Alex Mercer, to really understand just how someone like him operates on a psychological level. And, in exchange, ONI would get to keep an eye on something they considered dangerous, and use the information gathered as they saw fit.
