He looked in from the doorway. The fire burned low in the grate. Baelor's figure in the bed was statuesque, cast in shadow from dimmed lanterns and the moon's light spilling through a gap in the curtains. From afar, it seemed like he was merely sleeping, and that he would awake in the morning like any other.

    "Ser Duncan."

Dunk jolted at the soft voice. He whirled around, already stumbling over an excuse, "My lord-"

    Summary

"Radovan is right, it would be easier and cheaper to forge another sword than fix this. I could weld it together, but it's not worth it; the metal would still be too brittle. You'd be better off buying a new one."

"But I liked this one... Besides, I don't think I can afford another longsword now."

"Must it be a longsword? Fancy yourself a knight, do you?"

    "I am."

He sized up the rags the lad was dressed in, the tattered cloak around the broad shoulders, the frayed rope serving as a belt. The bald urchin standing behind the "knight" was giving Henry a stink-eye, so he cleared his throat and nodded. "A knight, aye."

    Summary

“Perhaps the seeds of madness are sown in the womb.”

Not for Aerion, no. Nor for Egg. But Daeron had always known. Since he was small, he saw the tapestries upon the walls burn above his cradle, and he knew. Drink or delirium, it did not matter. One way or another, his visions would be the death of him.

He had not reckoned he would have to suffer more than one.

The gods want something from Daeron. They must, to have devised so exceptional a hell. For why else would they have him live these days over and over?

If they have chosen Daeron to change the future, they have chosen the wrong man. Daeron is not a hero. He never has been.
