    “God, man. His fucking pupils,” Jack said. He leaned in closer to get a better view of his pupils swallowing up the irises of his eyes.

    “I know. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think he was on something.” Robby grabbed Dennis’ jaw with one hand and slipped the other back down his underwear. “But he’s just being a really good boy, isn’t he?” He used the hand on his jaw to make Dennis nod his head.

    When Dennis agreed to cover shifts for Dr. Mohan on the night shift, he didn't think he would ever end up here. Kidnapped from the ambulance bay, his head pounding, and having to save the life of a man with limited medical supplies. That was supposed to be it. Somehow, he finds himself snatched up off a sidewalk, in the stables, in front of his home. There were no sacred spaces when you proved your worth.

    In the middle of it all, Dennis is confused by the way Dr. Robby and Dr. Abbot are circling him. The way they'd reach out and brush their fingers against his skin. The way they made sure he ate, got rest, and stayed safe. It made him ache with something he hadn't felt in a long time.
