"Cat Grant," Lena says pointedly, "asked you, a Pulitzer Prize winning investigative journalist, to write an article on why rich people are still single?" Lena arches her eyebrow at Kara. "I don't buy it."
(aka: Lena and Kara used to date in college but now Lena's the CEO of a multi billion dollar company and Kara is a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, so when said journalist comes in to interview her for a 50 Most Eligible Bachelors fluff piece, Lena has her suspicions.)

Lena’s shoulders slump in mock exasperation. “Kara, don’t start with me.”
“I am absolutely starting with you.”
What a smug little shit, Lena thinks. But God is she cute. “You really don’t want to play this game.”
"Yeah? Maybe I do.”
It’s said so softly, so gently, and if this was one of Siobhan’s movies, they wouldn’t be talking about the money or drinks at all, they’d be talking about something clenching around Lena’s chest, something stifling, a loneliness that paralyzes her bones.
“Don’t blame me when you lose,” Lena says with a gentle upturn of her mouth, her voice low and crackling, leaving a fifty-dollar bill on the bartop before she turns away.

“Wait, when you say ‘you’ll be teaching’, you mean…both of us?” Kara asks, sounding more than a little apprehensive. “Lena and I will be teaching it together?”
Lena’s own apprehension is so high that she’s fairly sure she’s seconds away from hyperventilation, but she’s surprising even herself with how well she’s hiding it.
“Astute observation, Miss Danvers. It’s clear to anyone in the room that you two have…magnetism.” Cat sounds matter-of-fact, but the casual way she states that other people - both students and coworkers - have noticed how she and Kara interact makes Lena want to sink into the floor and disappear.
OR
Kara and Lena are teachers, thirst is abundant, and communication is hard.
