“Sorry I’m late,” James says, pausing mid-sentence to catch his breath, “I had to take a quick detour.” He doesn’t offer details, clearly thinking this explanation to be sufficient.
Regulus frowns at him. “What are you doing here? You aren't a prefect."
“Don’t be silly,” James says. “I’ve got the badge, see?” He points at his jumper, which, now that Regulus takes a closer look, does indeed have a prefect badge pinned to it. Potter grins. "Just think of this as an opportunity.”
Regulus crosses his arms and lifts an eyebrow. “An opportunity to deduct House Points for impersonation?"
“An opportunity to ask me to invite you for Christmas.”
Or: Regulus never once wonders where Sirius went that night. There’s only one option, and Sirius always did prefer his chosen family over his blood brother. So why is James Potter trying so hard to befriend him now?

“Who’s there?” Jayce asks loudly. “Show yourself!”
Slow footsteps. And then, from behind one of their prototypes, comes – a boy. Nine, maybe ten years old. Pale, brown hair, golden eyes. Ragged clothes. Limping.
Jayce frowns. The family resemblance is obvious, but Viktor never mentioned that he had a brother. “Did Viktor bring you here?”
“Viktor?” the boy asks, frowning right back at him. “I’m Viktor.”
Due to a failed experiment, Viktor is turned into a child. Suddenly on his own and feeling desperately out of his depth, Jayce does his best to take care of him while also figuring out a way to bring his partner back.

Summary
Sometimes a person is connected to another through their dreams. They don’t always end up meeting in the waking world, but when they do the relationships vary greatly: some formed romantic bonds, some formed platonic bonds, and some would try to kill each other. Some people have claimed that they’re connected to someone from a different time, be they someone from the far future or a famous historical figure.
Ryland wasn’t sure he believed those claims. The person he was connected to clearly did, but Ryland was pretty sure he was making everything up. After all, Simon also claimed that all of the stars and planets were gone, which was just impossible.
