Cas gasped, "Please-," and tightened his grip on Dean's hands. He immediately silenced his thought and released his grip on the hunter.
"Sorry," he muttered.
"Nah. Don't be sorry. I get it," Dean whispered as he looked down at their hands and licked his lips. A strange weight lifted off Castiel's shoulders when Dean grabbed his hands more firmly and held them tight. They let their hands rest on the mattress between them. "I get it. Contact - touching - it's important for humans. Sounds dumb. But it's true. People need… like a herd or clan or whatever. We're not meant to be alone."
Cas looked blankly at him. "That seems like interesting advice for you of all people to give me."
Dean chuckled, nodding. "Yeah. But I do have some friends and I have Sammy. Still, you have a point. I mean, how do you think I know? Why do you think I am the way I am? Like I said. I get it."

Softly, Dean asks, “Well, what happens to her, now?”
Castiel uses a small touch of his Grace to rejuvenate the bee so she’s no longer dehydrated or exhausted from her flight. The bee flicks her wings a couple times before taking off again. Castiel watches her, not quite jealous, but still filled with longing as he is reminded of his own wings, broken and flightless. He doesn’t look away as he replies, “There’s that community garden. Odds are, hers wasn’t the only colony in the area. If she’s lucky, she might be accepted into one of the other hives and find a new permanent home there.”

“You saved me,” Cas says.
Dean wants to crawl inside that low rumble of a voice and curl up there forever. Delirious, he says, “Yes.”
Then Cas says, “You kissed me.”
Dean swallows. “And?”
Cas kisses him. Something burns at the hem of Dean’s shirt and his eyelashes flutter darker and it’s much, much later when he realizes he’d felt a spark from the lightbulbs blowing out.

Dean barely talks since Cas died. Even once they save him, it's too damn hard. In which fucked up coping styles leave both Cas and Dean convinced the other doesn't really love them. Cas thinks Dean is offering to sleep with him out of the goodness of his heart, or so Cas won't leave. Dean is trying to be less of a dick and ends up crying all the time. Cas just wants Dean to let him be the big spoon. They get to heal and be in love.

Castiel blinked his eyes open slowly, looking up at Dean owlishly before jolting up, nearly clipping Dean’s jaw on the way.
“Hey, hey,” Dean said, concern lacing his tone. “You okay, man?”
Castiel cleared his throat. “Yes. My apologies, Dean.”
“S’okay. You wanna tell me why you’re sleeping in Baby?”
Things have settled down since rescuing Sam. Mary is bonding with her sons, and Castiel is nearly back to full capacity, just needing a little sleep here and there. When Dean discovers Cas' unusual resting spot, what starts as a series confessions leads to the emotional healing they both needed.

Castiel rolled his eyes but the effect was undermined by a tangle of leaves falling from his hair. “I am not weak.”“I didn’t say that, Cas,” Dean said, “but you are human now. You gotta stay in one piece. No more angel powers to put us all back together, remember?”
There was no need for Dean’s reminder. Castiel spent everyday acutely aware of his own mortality: hunger and thirst, the need to sleep, the bruises on his skin. Most of all, Castiel was far, far, far too aware that, if Sam and Dean were ever badly injured, Castiel could no longer do anything to save them.
