Summary
Dabi - formerly crowned Prince Touya Todoroki and heir to the dragon throne - was perfectly content living with his merry band of misfits. A life of petty crime and adventure was better then being groomed for a throne he never wanted.
Hawks - had no memory of a time before being a forced hired sword. Found as a child and thrown into a guild of brutes, he did what needed to be done to not have his wings clipped. He was treated less than human, but he almost hand enough money to buy his freedom.
When King Enji Todoroki puts out a hefty bounty to find his long missing son, Hawks takes it immediately. It's more than enough to buy his freedom and how hard could it be to find a dragon Prince?
Hawks ends up joining with a group of thieves also out to grab the bounty and another treasure that none of them are willing to tell him about. His father reiterated the three Todoroki clan’s family rules more times than he could count. He has memorized it out of spite and he can’t wait until his younger siblings are older so that their father will repeat his litany to them instead. So even if he wasn’t truly listening at the moment, he can answer the traditional monologue happening.
Seeing his father about to open his mouth (and most probably rebuke him again), Touya pushed away the hand on his head.
“Rule Number One, the Todoroki estate must always house a direct descendant. Rule Number Two, the empty room must remain empty and inaccessible to those not of our blood. And rule number three,” which is pathetic in his opinion but he wasn’t interested in being punished right now for speaking his mind, “is to never bring red and gold inside. Well, whatever ‘red and gold’ actually means.”
Alternatively: Recently engaged Touya and Keigo had to move in to the Todoroki ancestral home due to unforeseen events. “Your majesty.” The man in horrifically opulent robes bows low, the ridiculous sleeves pooling on the floor in a puddle of silk. “We have brought you a spoil of war, captured during the battle of Kamino, a rare and exotic creature for your household.” Touya sits up a little in interest, this was rather unusual as far as presents for his father went. The doors open with a heaving groan, and Touya leans forward in open interest. He was expecting a large cage to be wheeled in, containing some fantastical creature like a small wyvern or a kirin. Instead the servants yank on heavy chains, pulling in a young man with massive crimson wings.
“A harpy, your majesty, tamed and trained for battle by the enemy. He was captured in combat, and has spent the last six months undergoing training to become a suitable pet for the royal household. I give him to you, your majesty, to serve whichever role his highness pleases.”
