He tightened his grip on the bouquet of red roses in his hand. The thorns pricked his palm through the paper wrapping, but he barely felt it. Robotnik took a deep breath. He could turn back. Leave now and pretend this moment of weakness had never happened.
He had already defied logic by surviving the explosion, already shattered expectations by existing at all. He hadn’t expected to survive. And he certainly hadn’t expected that damn black hedgehog to save him.
Yet, here he was. Alive. And burdened with the consequences of that survival.

Shadow was able to save Dr. Robotnik just in time. Dr. Robotnik, having faced death, has had a massive revelation. He’s been in a romantic relationship with his Agent for years and only now realized. How embarrassing, he can’t let Agent Stone know that he’d been so clueless. So, he doesn’t mention it and treats Agent Stone with a newfound appreciation that only comes from life-altering knowledge gained after almost dying.

Agent Stone has been head over heels for Dr. Robotnik since his first year of working with him. After Dr. Robotnik miraculously returns from his latest near-death experience, he is a lot more affectionate with Agent Stone. He may not know why the Doctor is acting this way, but he’s not complaining. Agent Stone resolutely enjoys this newfound positive attention with content silence. Not willing to risk their newfound synergy by talking about it and having the Doctor retreat to his depression.

Shadow did one nice thing. Now he has two humans that despite, supposedly, being two of the most intelligent humans on the planet. They also happen to be two of the biggest idiots he’s ever seen. Their mating rituals are pathetic, but what could he do?
