Summary
She had started anticipating it, noticing whenever Jackie walked too close, cataloguing every accidental brush of skin, and wondering, despite herself, whether it would happen again.
Which was why it was so frustrating that, that day, it didn’t happen at all. Not once. Jackie had spent hours by her side, yet somehow seemed strangely unaware of the silent habit they had built between them.
Or, Jackie realizes she’s in love with Shauna long before she’s ready to admit it.
Or, five times Jackie took Shauna’s hand first, and one time Shauna did.

Summary
Well, fuck this supposed dumb poet boy that Shauna’s probably imagining right now. Jackie was… Jackie could be good with her fingers, too.
The thought stops right where it starts, because her stomach’s gone all warm, and that only makes her stomach twist in return. She didn’t… mean it like that, or whatever. She meant it like — Shauna wouldn’t need some guy, if Jackie was right there. If they ever got rescued from these stupid woods, they could share a dorm without ever having to worry about a bystander.
Yeah, it made total sense. Best friends were supposed to be there for each other, right?or,
Jackie watches Shauna outside one night and makes it her duty to feel that good, too.

Summary
Shauna squints. Is the girl making fun of her? Is Shauna just not understanding the teasing?
The girl ignores Shauna’s suspicious gaze and just claps her hands, as if Shauna just said the best thing ever to her. “Wowza, you’re so cool! Bon-joor!”
Five-year-old Shauna Shipman is learning a very important lesson: moving to America is incredibly difficult, especially when you only speak French.
Difficult. Not impossible. Not if Jackie Taylor has anything to say about it.
