Chelsea had gotten used to being excluded. Had learned not to assume she was invited when others discussed plans around her after one too many times of inviting herself and being awkwardly asked to leave. Adapted to say “that sounds fun!” and leave it at that until directly asked to participate.
So when Nikki first mentioned restarting the long standing tradition of afternoon tea with the girls, Chelsea had smiled and wished them a “totes amazing time!”

He was relieved, at least, that Gen hadn’t started dating anyone. The man was still single—still available—which should’ve been ideal for Senku. Except it wasn’t, not when others noticed Gen too.
It happened often. Guys pulling Gen aside for a chat, laughing too loudly at their jokes, flirting boldly right in front of him. Every time, Senku was reminded of an unpleasant truth: someone else could easily swoop in and take Gen away.
He’d be supportive, of course. Rational. Mature. That’s what he told himself.
But the truth was uglier—he was a jealous, possessive bastard who wanted the mentalist all to himself.
Why was he acting like Taiju and Chrome when it came to confessing his feelings? It was stupid, honestly. Senku just needed a push.
“Gen knows how I am, so he should already see this coming,” Senku muttered, shaking himself free of his thoughts before glancing up at his roommate. “By any chance, do you know what the mentalist’s dressing up as?”
Chrome’s lips curved into a grin, mischief lighting up his eyes as he wiggled his brows. “Curious to know if Gen’s gonna wear something sexy?”
Senku felt his eye twitch. “It doesn’t matter to me what he wears.”

But as he explains it, Gen feels bad. And he can’t understand why. “I lied from the beginning. Never told the truth. And I started telling the truth at the end. I played on your paranoia.”
And after few seconds of taking it in, Senku is grinning again. “Shit, nicely played.”
His words, they’re so genuine.-
It's easy for Gen to lie. It's easy for him to get what he wants. If someone gets hurt in the process, then so be it. But he an't find himself lying to Senku, who is the very essence of honesty, seeking truth through science.

He always wore that same poker face whenever he’d see him. That challenging glint in his eye when he looked at Senku never went unnoticed by him either.
Senku had to hand it to him, the mentalist had a composure of steel.
Which only made him that much more determined to break it. He’s always liked challenges, and Gen was the person who never failed to give him the best.
And it was ten billion percent apparent that Gen was in love with him.

Senkuu smirks. Gen is mostly joking, but it’s too late. Senkuu never turns down an opportunity to learn something new, test a theory, what have you. “I’m gonna kick your ass— get excited.” Senkuu wipes his hand on his apron, before clapping his hand into Gen’s. “You’ve got a deal, psych major.”

"Gen," Senku said, voice lower than usual. "Need to talk. Privately."
Gen raised an eyebrow, playful mask sliding into place automatically. "Oho? Senku-chan wants a secret meeting? Should I be flattered or scared~?"
"Look," Senku started, exhaling sharply. "Sapphire's... persistent. She's starting to interfere with work. Keeps showing up during critical experiments. Distracts the team. I need her to back off."
Gen tilted his head, amused. "So tell her you're not interested. You're good at being direct, Senku-chan."
"I did. Multiple times. She thinks it's 'tsundere' or some nonsense. Village girls hear too many old romance stories or something." Senku grimaced. "Science doesn't have time for this drama."
Gen chuckled. "Poor Senku-chan, the heartthrob of the stone world. What do you want me to do? Hypnotize her? Stage a dramatic rejection scene?"
Senku looked at him then—really looked. And there was something vulnerable in those eyes. Fear? Anxiety? It was so out of place on Senku's face that Gen's teasing died in his throat.
"No," Senku said quietly. "I need you to pretend to be my boyfriend."
"Excuse me?"

Ukyo usually wouldn’t think anything more of it. He felt nothing but happiness for them at the beginning - Gen’s been his best friend in the Stone World, he knows how long he’s been in love with him for. Plus, they’re young and just got together after years of pining, they’re allowed to have an annoying honeymoon period that’s slightly awkward for everyone else around them. Ukyo would’ve let them be dumb for a little while and then breathed a sigh of relief with everyone else in the Kingdom of Science when Senku and Gen finally came to their senses again.
That’s how it would’ve gone if it wasn’t for the goddamn tapping.

No, no, go away. Gen silently pleaded. Not like this. Don’t look at me like this. The concerned look on Senku’s face made something twist in Gen’s gut that, for once, wasn’t associated with his hunger. Gen was a monster. He didn’t deserve that look, especially from Senku.
“Noth - nothing. I’m f - fine.” Gen stuttered out, cursing his impeccable bad luck as darkness overtook his senses a second later, and he collapsed.
