Isn’t he? In a way? In many ways. Ever since the San Marino fiasco they’ve been tugging at each other’s invisible strings. Anything Ayrton says it’s meant to rile up Alain, anything he says is meant to keep him in place. Every debrief becomes a complicated battle of patience, but also it’s the only time they truly speak, and he misses having actual conversations.

“You wanna try?” he asks in a voice roughened by smoke, green eyes twinkling, pupils dilated so dark that Max knows, he knows, that this isn’t the first joint he’s had tonight. That sometime before they found each other, on this godawful lime green couch in this dark corner, there was another joint, another person, maybe, pulling him onto their lap and feeding him smoke and tongue. Oscar, maybe.
The fingers on Max’s other hand, the one not holding Lando close to him, jerk abruptly. “I ‒” he starts, but his mouth is dry and his tongue isn’t working. He clears his throat, wets his lips, starts again while Lando watches him with hungry intent. “I. I’ve never…”
“Oh?” One of Lando’s eyebrows raises, manicured and sharp and knowing. “Four-time World Champion’s never smoked a bit of weed?”
Or: Max and Lando shotgun some weed. Lando's boyfriend, Oscar, isn't as opposed to it as you'd think.
