Summary
Satomi doesn’t have work tonight, but that doesn’t stop either of them from moving like they have minutes and not hours. There’s relief in knowing that Kyouji is eager to touch him, but the thin red lines decorating the back of his hand remind Satomi of the cat they saw on their way over from the station. Or rather, the cat’s reaction to Kyouji trying to pet it.
“Cats probably hate you because you’re too heavy-handed,” Satomi tells him, pushing his glasses further up the bridge of his nose.

The combination of spot-on characterisation and tasteful smut is, as always, a very welcome surprise; especially in this fandom, where such balance is particularly difficult to achieve.

Summary
A request for Danmei Gotcha for Gaza. Five quirks of Shen Wei's sex life being married to a newly reinstated god, and one thing that hasn't changed even the slightest bit.
Try as he might to scold Yunlan with his eyes, he was sitting naked save for a bedsheet in front of the unabashedly beautiful form of Lord Kunlun in the light of a dawn fading from rose into gold. When the god cradled his chin and claimed his lips, those curtains of loose hair trailing against Shen Wei's shoulders and thighs, he was once again that naive young gui king who couldn't even name what he was looking for, begging Kunlun to bestow a kiss. It was like being young again at the dawn of time.

Gojo Satoru is not gay. He’s not.
He likes tits and asses, and long fucking legs and curves. Long hair and pretty faces. He’s never been into men like - and he should know, he’s been in some kind of sport his whole life, from wrestling to basketball, and now he’s in a frat house. There’s naked dudes around him at all times. If he were fucking gay, he’d know already, but it's the opposite! He gets the heebies jeebies from seeing dicks flop around in the locker room and he likes eating pussy!
But no one in the world sucks his dick better than Geto Suguru, and Satoru thinks this is monstrously unfair.

It's a source of constant amusement to me that one of the few JJK fics I've truly enjoyed is a PWP, but this little story is a refreshing change of pace in a ship whose fanworks are often laden with joyless angst.

Despite my long-held love for Kuroko no Basuke, none of the popular ships ever struck a chord with me. MidoTaka being one of the least objectionable of those ships, I dared to give The Frog in the Well a try, and found myself utterly charmed by its apt characterisation, understated-but-heartwarming romance, and surprisingly intelligent plot.

Cecil has eyes everywhere in Night Vale. Literally. (Or: an exploration of Cecil's occasional omniscience.)
The decision to keep a close eye on the new addition to Night Vale's scientific community had everything to do with Cecil's professional integrity as a journalist and nothing to do with Carlos's perfect hair or his beautiful lab coat or the strong, capable hand that Cecil was currently shaking.

Bookmarker's Notes
An interesting and plausible exploration of canon events, enjoyable worldbuilding, and excellent characterisation are a difficult combination to manage at the best of times, but all the more so in a fandom like Welcome to Night Vale. This fic, however, manages just that, without a hitch.

Summary
They say there is an island in the center of the world, where a mysterious monster lies in sleep to wait for the day it wakes and causes the end of the world. Kurogane always dismissed it as nothing more than a story, until a chance encounter lands him on a ship created by dark magic and he begins to realize that every myth has its roots in truth.

So: we've heard about the people of Night Vale, about its buildings, history, food and laws. But what about the local animal population? You KNOW they're around. And they're watching you.
A series of notes typed in on the fly through various scientists' cellphones, laptops and tablets, occasionally while being bandaged (the scientists, not the tech), written in the 'Partially Stars' universe by the wonderfully talented thebookofnights with her permission.

Partially Stars is not so much an attempt at rationalising or explaining the weirdness that is Night Vale as it is something that adds a layer of meaning to those innumerable little details that canon leaves up to the imagination, all while perfectly emulating the bizarre inexplicability of WtNV. Great characterisation of Carlos and Cecil, very good development of the show's secondary cast, and a rather endearing group of OC's in the form of Carlos' co-workers.

A seamless fusion of two of my favourite animanga series of all time, Dust and Bones boasts excellent characterisation, a grippingly haunting style of storytelling, and worldbuilding that's careful to never undermine either 'verse; instead using the concepts behind both Mononoke and Mushishi to further its plot in a most skilful way.

A delightful read, complete with gorgeous prose, fantastic worldbuilding which borrows from both Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, and gratifyingly era-appropriate characterisation and dialogue. You need not even be a particular fan of the source material; as long as you have a passing knowledge of the original novels' storyline and excellent taste in femslash, The Red Country is for you.

Summary
Zhao Yunlan wasn't really into blockbuster movies and sensational television until he was assigned to guard the rising darling of Chinese drama. And even then, he wouldn't say he was super into it, more like he was only specifically into anything with the name "Shen Wei" attached to it. But as he got to know the beautiful actor and slowly perused every title he'd ever been in, Zhao Yunlan couldn't quite get over the feeling that he had seen him somewhere else before. Or at least, someone who looked strikingly similar.

After a crazy night out at a club and a one night stand, Zhao Yunlan found himself enraptured not with the man who brought him home, but the man's quiet, gentle roommate. However, the mysterious man refused to let Zhao Yunlan even know his name, much less anything about him.
Soon, Zhao Yunlan found out that there's something deeply unsettling surrounding the roommates. There had to be a reason why Mr Handsome Roommate appeared to be scared of him, right?

Bookmarker's Notes
It's always a lovely surprise to encounter a well-written action-mystery story in a small fandom like that of Guardian, especially one set in the Past arc - which was poorly executed in the show and tends to get short shrift from the fandom. Black Scales sidesteps the common flaws of YOHE era fic re: plot, worldbuilding and characterisation to deliver an interesting, enjoyable reading experience while still remaining largely drama canon-compliant.

Not being fond of the "misunderstandings (nearly) ruining relationships" trope, the latter third of the fic wasn't entirely to my taste, but this is a minor quibble in the face of the interesting fix-it scenario and clever bit of worldbuilding Will Keep on Shining has to offer.

A canon fix-it where, interestingly, the focus is not on the mechanism of the fix itself, but on the aftermath. The resulting case fic was fairly well-done, the characterisation and dialogue refreshingly sharp with no sugar-coating whatsoever. And, thankfully, no Ye Zun redemption; instead allowing other characters who're often ignored but, in my opinion, far more interesting - Li Qian, the Regent, An Bai, Zhao Xinci/Zhang Shi - a chance to contribute to the story.

Bookmarker's Notes
A well plotted and nicely characterised take on the YOHE arc, Not All Those Who Wander borrows elements from the source novel in order to negotiate an alternate version of the show's mythos that simultaneously paves the way for a canon fix-it, manages a neat bit of worldbuilding that makes far more sense than what the drama had to offer, and allows Zhao Yunlan to become a man worthy of Shen Wei's love and Da Qing's loyalty in a way that the show did not.
(I'm not one much for author commentary, but the journal post linked at the end of the fic really enhances the reading experience, so it's well worth a look.)

Zhao Yunlan lifts an open palm, his smile turning into a grin. "Welcome to the SID!"

Bookmarker's Notes
I don't typically bookmark "first time" fics: not because I find them unappealing, but because my enjoyment of them tends to be entirely subjective, while I try to be at least somewhat objective in my recommendations. That being said, this particular iteration has such brilliant insights into both characters' personalities, behaviour and thought processes - all while merging seamlessly with canon events and incorporating some of the best dialogue I've encountered in Guardian fic - that my usual considerations really need not apply.
