Keigo taps the screen and starts the voicemail.
Rumi’s voice comes through immediately, loud and a little rushed, like she hit record mid-step. There’s background noise – people talking, traffic, and the sharp beep-beep of a bus door closing.
“Hey, thanks again for covering for me today, seriously. I owe you. I know this isn’t really your thing, but you’ve got it. You’ll be fine. Just –” a quick, muffled laugh, “– take a bunch of photos of Todoroki, yeah? Those always do well.”
A brief shuffle follows, fabric rustling like she’s adjusting her bag.
“Anyway. I’m on my way now. Wish me luck! And text me later, yeah? Let me know how it went. Okay – love you. Talk later!”
The message cuts off.
Keigo lowers the phone slowly, staring at the screen for a few seconds.
“Todoroki?” he repeats to no one but himself.
“…who the hell is Todoroki?”

Here’s the thing: Vash Saverem is broke. Not just poor — oh, no. He’s out-on-the-street broke. He’s three eviction notices down and the last one was printed on pink paper. Fired from two jobs within a week flavor of broke. He hasn’t eaten since yesterday morning when he inhaled a granola bar and had to drink directly from the tap to keep from choking.
So, when he got said pink-papered eviction notice, Vash knew he couldn’t be picky about his employment anymore. When he initially went job searching, all his hope had spiraled down the drain with every page he sifted through. References, high school diploma, good standing, experience… Every single one listed something that Vash simply didn’t have. By the time he got to the fifteenth page, all the listings had been for such specific types of people that it was no wonder they weren’t getting snapped up immediately. Contractors and freelancers and people with connections that Vash could never even hope to have. All except for one:

Summary
When the Hero Public Safety Commission says ‘jump,’ Hawks skips asking 'how high' and works his way from jump rope to jumping jacks before opening his mouth to complain that he can fly. Their latest request, a PR campaign geared to present Hawks as the heroic icon of the masses, at least seems easier than getting his feathers burned off by Dabi’s pet noumu… Right?
In which Hawks gets surgery, defeats a traumatized villain, receives some unwelcome fanmail, garners the sympathy of terrorists, accidentally forges enough relationships to cumulatively value as at least one friend, and maybe, eventually, asks for help - not necessarily in that order.

Summary
It was hard to figure out when Hawks was lying, almost as hard as it was to figure out when he was telling the truth.
Maybe he was always being honest. Maybe he was always telling lies. Maybe, deep down, Dabi had to admit to himself that he could never truly believe a person who was stupid enough to look him in the eye and tell him, straight-faced, “I like you.”
