It scared him—seeing Dream like this scared him. He was never supposed to be this… vulnerable.
The dagger in his hands was much heavier now. It would take one swing to finish Dream off. In the state he was in, he’d never be able to deflect it.
And yet, George was transfixed in place.
“Sorry,” Dream murmured, and it was so quiet George had to step forward a bit to hear. “I just didn’t… know where else to go.”
His last words were nothing more than a breath, and with them, his legs buckled under him, letting his body fall.
Or, Dream gets injured and shows up at George's doorstep. This wasn't in the hunters' manual.

Summary
George calmly exhales and looks into the other's glazed eyes carefully, his gaze unwavering. "There's a lot of things I want to do that I haven't yet."
The words wash over Dream, slowly filtering from his ears into his mind, settling daintily on the top of his heart. Don't do this, you'll regret it. His mind urgently warns him, reminding him of the massive loss he'll most likely suffer over the small chance of success.
"So deep, I know." George snorts before catching sight of the blonde's face torn with contemplation and tension. He places a soft hand on the other's forearm, his gaze dropping with uncertainty. "Are you ok?"
Dream looks down at him, offering a small smile. "Yup, just need some liquid courage." He licks his bottom lip as he places the beer down onto the floor.
George grins and shakes his head, looking out at the dark skyline. "For what? Jumping off?"
Dream shrugs. "Something like that."
* * * *
After their long-awaited meeting, George and Dream travel to Italy for a much-needed vacation, finding a lot more than just delectable cuisine and breathtaking architecture.

Summary
This is my take on the beautiful story Heatwaves from George's POV. I loved the original and couldn't get enough of it. If there is anyone out there feeling the same way, I think this should be good for them.
All this back-and-forth, this innocent teasing; he has gotten used to it by now. He knows the moves of the game. He jokes when Dream jokes. He strikes only if Dream does first. It's entertainment. A meaningless, platonic love affair.
Yet his mind dwells. He knows it now. His mind lingers waiting for a dream to last.
It is tiring to navigate the mazes of their interactions with Dream. He grows vary of keeping balance, minding not to fall into a trap with each step. Yet he walks on. There must be an abstract reward to all this, something that feeds his soul — he doesn’t know what. He only knows that it doesn’t bother him anymore.Bookmarked by UnderscoreFightingForLife
