Summary
Grace and Rocky have fallen into a routine during their trip to Erid, which means of course something must go wrong. This particular something is the SM-13, a ship not meant for space holding a human heartbeat within. Once they get its passenger stable, they find out he doesn't speak either of their languages, and he's one wrong move from stabbing Grace at any given time.
Simon also thinks he's probably dead, so there's that. No one is having a great time.

"Grace! Grace!! Much noise in console!" Even through the radio Grace could hear alarms beeping and whistling in sudden protest, the ship itself groaning at a rapid change in... gravity?
Something was pulling on the ship- heck, something was pulling on him! It was suddenly hard to hold on as the unknown force tugged the entire rig forward. Looking around wildly, Grace’s stomach dropped from shock. Inky blackness spread out in front of him as far as he could see, void of any of the points of light he had been previously using to navigate.
The stars? Were the stars- gone??

In the darkness, something ancient and hungry is awake, moving between universes and eating the stars. Its unwilling champion, Simon, has been rescued from the hell of the SM-13 by an awkward blue-eyed angel who seems just as confused as he is. Now he's a prisoner aboard a ship full of the very microorganisms his new god seems to fear. Simon just wants to live. Grace and Rocky just want to make it to Erid. And somewhere out there, a desperate band of Consolidation operatives just want their black box back.

"So he's really paralyzed?" Simon asks.
"Oh? Uh, yeah." Grace turns back to Rocky's sleeping form and gestures broadly at him.
Rocky is curled at the bottom of his tunnel, legs at his sides, body resting on the ground.
Simon nods, looking uncomfortable. "So he won't interrupt."
"Nah, he can't, he's– huh?" Grace fumbles for his glasses in earnest now. His heart rate picks up, but he's sort of hoping he's wildly misinterpreting what he just heard.
"Sit back down." Simon growls as Grace goes to stand up.
Slowly, Grace sits back down on the floor. He looks Simon over again and realizes, with a panicked flutter in his stomach that quickly spreads through his limbs like ice water, that Simon is holding a razor blade.

Simon closes his eyes. It's his own type of silent defiance. If this man isn't just fucking with him – if he does, for some strange reason, feel bad or guilty about capturing him, then good. Let him drown in it.
Simon is captured by a compulsive liar who, bafflingly, gives him food, smiles at him, and pretends the Quiet Rapture never happened.
Grace saves the life of a violent human who seems to be under the terrifying delusion that every star and planet has disappeared without a trace.

Ryder bolted back to the window his eyes dead set on Colts twin. Colt wasn’t bad looking, obviously, that applied to his twin aswell. And if Ryder wanted to get any sliver of attention, even from Colt, he could do the same thing everyone was doing to that nerdy man. Shamelessly flirt with him.

Stratt turned around and with a wave of her hand another man had walked over, “You’ll be remaining here with Dr. Grace. I trust you can keep him out of trouble.”
“Shouldn’t be a problem.” The other man’s voice was smooth, and if Grace was hearing correctly it almost sounded like there was an undercurrent of mirth.
That’s when it clicked, was Stratt siccing a babysitter on him? “Hold on! What trouble are you thinking I'm going to get into?” Should he be offended? He was a grown man, he’d worked in countless labs before and sure he’d had some questionable outcomes but they’d just let him be the first scientist to study an alien life form! They should have more trust in him than this!
”Everyone in the world wants to get their hands on astrophage. Simon is here to protect you from them.” Stratt explained, turning again to give Grace an exasperated expression. “I should hope you don’t need constant supervision from yourself Dr. Grace.”

She's been staring at the footage for over an hour today, the chase playing on a loop as it had in the days since it happened, Grace's bright yellow jacket a beacon in the blurs of gray buildings, black coats, and dull green grass. She stares at it for so long that it becomes the only thing she sees in her dreams anymore.

An Eridian mining crew find a human welded into a stranded ship on the surface of a moon. They bring him back to Erid, to the only other human they know.
Something in Grace's chest flickered into life. He had buried it so long ago that he hardly knew what it was anymore, and so he took off his glasses and cleaned them on the edge of his cardigan, as if Rocky's words were a smudge he could clear away before finding the will to hope.
“Ah…” his words failed halfway out of his mouth. Rocky chittered at him, a little sound of encouragement. “There’s another human? Here. And… alive?”
