Reece swallows. Once again, he’s plagued by the uncomfortable feeling that Steve might have a point. “Yeah, well, it’s fucking hard,” he says. “I already feel like an imposter just being here.”
Or: Steve convinces Reece to go to Spain for a week for the first holiday abroad of his life. Reece is pretty sure it'll take longer than that to unlearn a lifetime of worries.

Reece wets his lips. The blood is rushing so loudly in his ears that he can hardly hear himself say, “Okay.”
Or: Reece is the first in his family to attend university, and he thinks that the general expectation was that he’d graduate and get a high-paying job immediately. He doesn't.

Steve takes a step closer to him, and when Reece steps back on instinct, his expression turns smug and self-satisfied, which is the worst expression anyone could have, in Reece’s opinion.
“See?” Steve says. ”You’re doing it right now! Being afraid of werewolves is nothing to be ashamed of.”
Reece feels a vein in his forehead pulse. He steps back closer to Steve, whose eyes widen.
“It’s got nothing to do with you, if you can believe that! I’m just tired of all them cunts thinking they can touch me ‘cause of my stupid fucking mark.”
“What mark?” Steve asks, sounding genuinely bewildered.

It’s supposed to be a sign of good luck, being marked by the goddess of luck herself. Of course, for someone whose touch supposedly improves people's fortunes, Reece's own luck has always been abysmal.

Impossible, when Vander is next to Silco every day watching the lean flex of his muscles beneath his skin, watching him scrape his hair back into a rough knot, watching him crick his neck as he tips a glass of whisky back and forth in his clever, narrow-fingered hands. Don’t want. Easier said than done.
Or: before it all went wrong, Silco and Vander had something good.
