Jaina thinks this looking down at the card in her hand, enchanted ink alighting in vibrant purple beneath her touch. A Kirin Tor eye blazes up at her and below it, a few lines of text she has seen countless times before:

Summary
Jaina looks up to find none other than Sylvanas Windrunner peering down at her with newly blue eyes. Well, somewhat newly blue. She spent at least four, maybe even close to five years in the Maw with them—until the somewhat contemptible decision was made to release her from her punishment there so that she might help in the battle against the Void. Jaina, of course, had been one of the many detractors holding out against said release.
But now she finds herself with an amused smile on her lips as Sylvanas returns it. Except hers is more than that. She grins like a cat who’s finally caught the canary—fangs and all.
It’s only been more than twenty years since she’s last caught Jaina, for all of her newfound feathers.
“Well, well,” Sylvanas says. “What do we have here?”

Summary
Jaina had not been impressed the first time that she’d met Sylvanas Windrunner.
She’d been shockingly pretty to look at– tall, with broad shoulders that filled out a finely tailored tailcoat, gazing down at Jaina with surprise flitting across even finer elven features. The effect had been ruined almost as soon as she’d opened her mouth, of course.
Though that may have had something to do with the fact that Jaina had just crashed into her.

Summary
Sylvanas is not in the habit of denying her wife.
She thinks, sometimes, that she has always been incapable of denying Jaina, though she knows that to be untrue. In those first, fraught days of their marriage, denial had come as easy as breathing. A push and pull between the two of them. A tug of war with trust knotted in the middle. Sylvanas has never withheld anything from Jaina that she truly needed, but intimacy? Touch? Those things did not come easy.
They come quite easy now.

Jaina and Sylvanas have so many roles to fill on a daily basis that, at times, the weight becomes too much even for them to bear. To fill roles for each other, however, is another story, entirely. A story that allows them an escape from everyday life into a world where they need only be enough for each other.
