Troy Barrett was not the person Wyatt would have chosen to be paired up with for the day, but unfortunately this was something the players didn’t actually get much say in. Tickets for the annual Toronto Guardians Charity Golf Tournament were incredibly expensive and the front office wanted to ensure the generous donors got their money’s worth. They’d been very careful to make sure no one got stuck with two nobodies while someone else got to spend the day with two All-Stars.
Which meant Barrett had been separated from his buddy, Dallas Kent, and assigned to the task of raising Wyatt’s profile.

Barrett doesn’t confirm the allegation, but he doesn’t deny it, either. Instead, he eases himself down onto the bench beside Ilya, not bothering to move his knee when it brushes against Ilya’s thigh.
“If I didn’t know better, I’d think you like it.”
Or: Ilya knows that smoking is a bad habit. But, so is being attracted to his teammate, and this summer, there’s no one around to tell him no.

Troy Barrett has always been sensitive, it's something his father tried and failed to beat out of him. It was engrained into his very bones, but he'd learnt to push it down to only crack once alone. He laughed with the jokes, joined Dallas's name calling, or starting fights, and trained hard.
He'd done everything he could to keep his job stable in his team. And he'd been traded, to fucking Ottawa after making the dumb decision to tell Coach that Dallas was being weird. He could have handled it, but he had to go and tell.
Ilya Rozanov was an arsehole, but a carefully curated one. He didn't act like Barrett did, he was careful, and now said arsehole was going to be part of their team.
