Summary
On the way to Erid, Rocky and Ryland Grace come across a bright light with no apparent origin in the middle of space. It’s presence is a mystery, and Grace knows only one thing about it:
It was not meant for us.
But when Grace gets pulled into the light anyway, he is dropped into a sea of blood and a conflict he can barely comprehend. He is once again a pawn to moved in a strange world when all he wants to do is get back home. However, as more of the pieces fall into place, Grace starts to realize that all this suffering, all the pain and blood, might be. All. His. Fault.

When Ryland Grace and Rocky rescue Simon from the void of space, it isn’t the first time that the two humans have met.
“Our working theory is that you were spat out of a parallel universe. A timeline that is similar to, but not exactly ours. All of it is circumstantial, of course. Our only piece of evidence is that you are here. Alive. When, in this universe, you died in a car crash.”
That was a lot of information all at once. But if that was the explanation for his presence here… that meant that this wasn’t his Ryland. He was essentially a stranger wearing his lover’s face.
The silence between them had stretched for too long, and the not-his-Ryland was watching for his reaction with no small amount of trepidation. He should tell him that he believed him.

Stratt turned around and with a wave of her hand another man had walked over, “You’ll be remaining here with Dr. Grace. I trust you can keep him out of trouble.”
“Shouldn’t be a problem.” The other man’s voice was smooth, and if Grace was hearing correctly it almost sounded like there was an undercurrent of mirth.
That’s when it clicked, was Stratt siccing a babysitter on him? “Hold on! What trouble are you thinking I'm going to get into?” Should he be offended? He was a grown man, he’d worked in countless labs before and sure he’d had some questionable outcomes but they’d just let him be the first scientist to study an alien life form! They should have more trust in him than this!
”Everyone in the world wants to get their hands on astrophage. Simon is here to protect you from them.” Stratt explained, turning again to give Grace an exasperated expression. “I should hope you don’t need constant supervision from yourself Dr. Grace.”
