“Max isn’t going to get better”
Charles’ mouth felt so dry. “I’m sorry?”
“It’ll get worse as time goes on” Dr Frances said calmly. “Age will make it worse. It makes everything worse. Max is a young man now, but he is going to spend the rest of his life like this. Think about two, four, six decades of not standing on your own feet. The body isn’t made for that”
“Why are you telling me this?” He whispered.
“Because every appointment, you bring with you a notebook and ask me how it is improving, what needs to be changed, how Max is changing. I am telling you this now so in five years when you are angry with me that nothing has changed yet, you understand. This is Max, Charles. I’m so sorry”

Sebastian’s eyebrows shoot up his forehead. He blinks. “Sorry—What?” He’s glad he put his coffee down; otherwise, he probably—definitely—would’ve spilled it all over himself.
All straight-faced and matter of fact, Andrea repeats: “We need you to help Charles with his rut.”

Summary
There's a new gardener working in his father’s manor. Max immediately takes an interest in him and grows feelings. When he gets caught jerking off to him mid conversation, Max realises that he's not the only one who caught feelings.
Days pass and the flowers bloom. It grows with every conversation, every flick of interest, every rising sun. Max thinks that it's being fed from the love it's being surrounded with. Max can't help but look at Daniel in a love daze. He feels his heart race, fingers twitch, and stomach stir with arousal—sue him, he's got those teenage hormones.
Without a break in pattern, Daniel comes in at the early morning to converse with Max. When he realises that Max likes to talk to him far longer than he should be, he adjusts his rotation to still be finished with his tasks within the timeframe he was given. Max learns that he wakes up earlier to water the rest of the flowers earlier so he can talk to Max more. He complained only once before Daniel told him: “I want to talk to you too, Max. I don't like it when we have to cut our conversations short."
