‘What? No. Of course not,’ said Peter, frowning. ‘I need you to go and visit Elias and deliver a message from me.’
‘Um,’ said Martin. This sounded worse, actually.
Martin had thought isolating himself from the rest of the world and reading horrible statements about the end of humanity was the worst his job as Peter's assistant could throw at him. It turned out he was very, very wrong.

Judge Roberta Field eyed the next case on the docket balefully. She’d known it was coming. As soon as she’d seen it appear in her schedule she’d cursed and debated “breaking a leg”, since it had been too late to have another baby as a way out. She’d convinced herself that was too extreme, however, and lulled herself into a false sense of security that she must be misremembering and it wouldn’t be that bad. So she’d decided to keep working and let it happen. And now it was here.
The Bouchard-Lukas divorce.
Again.
It had been three years since the last one, which had to be a new record.

Elias and Peter are divorcing again. In trying to decide the division of their marital property, they need some witnesses to assist their respective cases. This is unfortunate for Jon and Martin, who would really rather be elsewhere.

'Um,' says Martin at last. 'No I- I don't- I don't hate you? Is that a- a- problem?'After returning from America, Jon shoots his shot. It goes... surprisingly well, given that it's him.
Unfortunately there's also the matter of the Magnus Institute Employee Code Of Conduct Rules Regarding Romantic Relationships Between Employees, and all of the supplementary paperwork that needs to be filled in every time they go on a date.

I'm sure you will relish the challenge it will bring and enjoy every moment spent with the fine men and women of the Institute. In time I'm confident they'll become like a family to you.

These two facts are unrelated, except they both happen at the same time.Meanwhile Jon's woken up from being dead for six months and for once he's trying his best. He just wishes Martin would stop avoiding him and answer his messages...

Summary
Most archaeologists, in Jon’s experience, would find themselves, sooner or later - and usually sooner - being walloped around the head by Indiana Jones references. Their mug collection would be slowly infested by smirking Harrison Fords. They would find themselves the weary owner of at least two ill-fitting costumes, complete with fake plastic bullwhip. And they would field a thousand tired variants on ‘Why did it have to be snakes?’
He, it seemed, was the sole exception. No one, on meeting Jonathan Sims, could ever remotely confuse him with Indiana Jones. When he mentioned his profession, the image that leapt immediately to mind, was, not a fedora and several films’ worth of thrillingly perilous adventures, but a man who did dull, meticulous research and spent hours getting moderately excited over pottery shards.
Jon really, really wished that this was the truth.
