“Whatever you need to tell yourself, Daniel.”
It was those words that flipped Daniel’s switch from placating spat to full on fight.

"Oui," Lestat answered, collapsing onto the couch next to Louis, who began running his fingers through his blonde hair, absentmindedly. "Horrid man."
"Hey!" Louis protested, "he's a good friend."
"Why did you let Louis make him his best man? It's making my life very difficult."
"Well, first of all," Louis answered for him, "he doesn't 'let' me do shit. And secondly, Daniel's back in the country soon, he'll be plenty of help with the wedding."
"Yeah?" Armand was incredulous. "Is he going to help book the venue, sort the DJ and call Lestat's annoying British friend five times a day until he pays his share of this trip? No?"
"You didn't need to book the DJ, Sam's doing it," Lestat reminded him. "And Santiago was your friend first."
"Not the point."

Daniel was concentrating so hard at pretending to read his notes, the next time the train jolted on the tracks he barely noticed the way his hand let go of the handrail (suspiciously sudden, he had been gripping very tightly) and he stumbled forward, tripping over Armand's shoes and falling backwards directly into his lap.

One of them had been talking this whole time, but the words never reached Daniel’s ears. He was too busy getting a glimpse of Hell. Or Heaven. A combination of both.
“We, uh,” she falters, clearly not expecting the reaction. “The Fang Gang brings you this heretic as a thank you for bringing us the knowledge of the Children of Darkness, although it shouldn’t have been published.”

“If you were trying to make a sexual request for something you wanted, then you should have simply said so, and not pretended you were doing it for my benefit,” Armand said coldly.
Daniel had reddened. “I was just offering,” he said grouchily. “I can tell you don’t like that you can’t read my mind anymore. You don’t believe me, but I mean it—I will tell you if I don’t like something.” He was giving Armand a keen look, one of those looks Armand did not much like.
