Summary
Dennis is just trying to catch his breath in the ambulance bay. They're caught up on the morning nursing home rush as much as they can be and it's only about noon. For a half second, he thinks Dr. Abbott is stumbling towards him, covered in blood. He only notices when he's nearly in front of Abbott’s doppelganger that he's wearing shorts and there's a flesh and bone leg where his prosthetic should be.
“Hey, you look like you could use some help,” Dennis says, reaching out to offer his arm but not touching him. “I'm Dr. Whitaker.”

“Bad day..?”
Andrew shifted slightly in his seat, taking a sip from his own bottle of beer.
“You wanna go fight in the yard?”
Well, that finally got Dennis’s attention. The younger man looked over, his brows pinched together in confusion. “What?” He questioned, voice tight with irritation. God, this was the most tightly wound Andrew had seen him in a long time.
“You and me. Go blow off some steam in the back yard. Used to do it all the time.”or

Summary
Let it be known that Abbot doesn't do this very often. Especially not with co-workers. What is an even bigger no-no is interns and students. The fresh-faced, wide-eyed ones who don't know what the hell they're in for. It's not only an unbalanced power dynamic, but it could cost him his career.
But Dennis Whitaker–the doe-eyed, curly-haired, tight-waisted R1 has broken him. Jack is exhausted from working his third double this month. He's strung out and wants nothing more than to bend Whitaker over his kitchen counter and–
“Is that okay?”
Jack sucks in a breath. Nods. Does his best to not get hard as Dennis carefully moves his leg outwards, causing Jack’s hand to slip further up the meat of his thigh. There's a silent conversation being had between the lines.
“Absolutely, it's okay.”OR
Dennis and Jack work a double shift side by side. Jack learns some information about Dennis that leaves him frothing at the mouth and wanting to take him home.

Dennis points a finger at his chest, eyes doubling in size. “Me? You want me to… why?”
Or...
After the Fourth of July shift from hell, Robby assigns Dennis one last task before leaving on sabbatical: keep an eye on Jack Abbot. What starts as a favour to Robby very quickly develops into an unlikely friendship between the night shift attending and PTMC's newest intern. But what happens when the pair both start catching feelings? Is Jack ready to move on from his late wife? Is Dennis prepared for what all a relationship with Jack would entail?
Well, they have three months to figure it out.

"I'm not about to kill myself, Robby," Jack said, easy. "If I were going to kill myself, I wouldn't do it here, for you all to find, because that's just rude. I'd eat my gun at home like a proper soldier. Iraq vets have a system, man, it's tradition," he drawled, putting some grim humor on the last.
"Gotta be honest, man, you're not making me feel better over here," Robby said, his voice actually worried now.
"Would it help to know I'm out here because it reminds me that I want to be alive?"

“Dr. Abbot, are you asking me what I’m wearing?” Robby asked, feigning shock. Jack bit his lip and closed his eyes for a moment. What a gift it was to catch this man with his guard down, with his voice low and warm like caramel sauce on apple pie. “Are you using a line on me?”
Jack finds himself on the roof again.

"Are we really going to ignore this?” His voice came out rough, laced with the intensity of all the stolen glances and brushed off touches they'd endured.
Robby let out a shaky exhale, his body already leaning forward without his permission.
“Jack… please.” The word hung there, a surrender, and it snapped the last thread of restraint between them.

Months of opposing shifts at The Pitt should have dulled the edge between them. Instead it’s intensified, until every accidental touch and shared glance feels like a spark.
