Simon swivels to face the rear of the sub and nearly chokes. The camera control panel is gone. The wall that replaces it is twice the distance away that it should be and cluttered with netting bags and some kind of glass-paneled construction. The wall is brightly lit, and lines that seem to run the length of it are at a diagonal intersection with the floor panels under Simon's feet.
Has he crashed into the SM-8 somehow? Or did the dropship pick him up when he was submerged in blood in the crawlspace? That would make things a hell of a lot easier, and explain why the engine isn't running anymore.
But no – the depth gauge was still firmly in the red when he just looked at it. Simon risks a glance over his shoulder to confirm, and notes that the oxygen meter has all four lights lit up. That must mean he’s on the COI dropship...right?
“Hello? Is anyone – oh!” A voice speaks, and Simon moves.

Colt, for the most part, avoided telling him about how dangerous so many of his stunts were, because he knew Ryland better than Ryland knew himself and he knew that he didn’t like that Colt was put in those kinds of situations. The only way he really knew was when Colt made it back to the apartment after a movie had wrapped to see scabbing scrapes and stitches and on one memorable occasion a broken arm that Colt had sulked about the entire time he had it in a cast.
So a hospital calling about him meant it had to be serious.

"You're murdering me!" he had screamed at her in a fit of rage. It wasn't wrong. She was sending him off to die. The illusion of choice had been the biggest illusion of all.

Sierra Six has been taken off the streets. And the only way to guarantee safety and normalcy for Claire, like he had promised old Fitzroy, was to be sent to die. In simple terms, he was voluntold for the Petrova Project. Martin DuBois and Annie Shapiro have died in an accident, leaving no scientist for the project. Ryland Grace, the world’s leading Astrophage scientist, also so happened to be voluntold because of this. Looks like they’re both saving the world and dying together. Like Brothers.

Ryland Grace thought that working on secret government science projects and then being basically bitten by a radioactive spider and then turning into a gosh-darn superhuman would be the wildest thing that ever happened to him. Because why wouldn't it???
But then one day, after coming home from his perfectly NORMAL job as a school teacher, he senses something. Something new, yet familiar. After trying to chase his best friend's worry away (that certainly won't bite him in the butt, no....) he walks into his house and finds...NINE other spider people. A good chunk of them, by the way, are TEENAGERS and he's pretty certain that he shouldn't be ok with literal kids runninga round risking lives. He's a teacher, for crying out loud!
