Summary
After the invasion and the death of the Sandaime, Iruka is left behind in Konoha to pick up the pieces as Naruto leaves for his special training. It's a lonely time, and it's a tough one. Everyone is struggling, from his littlest students to his shinobi friends, and Iruka is no different—the days pass in a haze of work, rebuilding, and comforting those around him.
Then something absurd happens. When an ANBU crawls through the window of Iruka's classroom after hours, half feral and positively begging to fuck him like a hound might beg for food scraps, Iruka surprises himself.

“Just- I’ve never done anything like this,” His voice wavers, his cigarette burns to the filter before it extinguishes itself. Sanji flicks it in the general direction of an overfilled trash can and puts his hands at his sides, index tapping against his waist. Trying to pose and make himself look more confident, even as his nerves seem to steer every other twitch and jolt of his being. He’s frantic, almost, as if he feels out of place within his own home. “Not as an omega, not yet.”
“We don’t have-”
“I want to,” Sanji cuts him off, a bit snappy. Frustrated by the constant inner conflict. “You have no idea how long I have wanted this.”

After the debacle that was Wano, a subtle shift dug a trench between Sanji and Zoro. While most of the crew hadn’t noticed the difference, both knew something was lacking. To name it meant facing it, and neither of them dared to anchor whatever had been said during that battle. For Sanji, it was a calculated risk, an impossible promise he knew the swordsman would keep. For Zoro, it was an occasion like any other to finally chain the cook where he belonged.

With a new threat showing it's nose on the supposedly deserted island they were visiting, Sanji will be forced to acknowledge what he knew was already there. Zoro, once again faced with the absence, will have no choice but to speak up to get it back. The both of them will be thrown into a hazardous situation that warrants a little more than a grunt or a lunchbox.

The ashtray is full of cigarette stumps. Usually, Sanji doesn’t smoke in the galley. He smokes everywhere and all the time, but he tries to keep the smoke and the ash out of his kitchen. It’s not a rule set in stone, though, and he smokes in here when he’s upset. It doesn’t have to be anything important – lord knows the sappy idiot gets worked up about many things and life in the New World isn’t exactly a piece of cake. No big deal, per se, but a nice way for the crew to know when not to grate on their chef’s nerves too much. He’s quicker to dish out some of these nasty kicks on the days he smokes in the galley.
But it’s night, and it’s not just a few cigarettes in that ashtray: Red flag number three.
In which Sanji is the quiet one and Zoro tries to keep the conversation going.
