“So I scrounged up the allowance I’d saved up and I bought it for him. I gave it to him the next day at school, and I swear I have never seen anyone smile so wide. Lance had lost four of his front teeth and at that point, his smile was basically all gums, but it was just so radiant . Lance had never made a friend before me, and the idea that someone had remembered his favourite flower and bought him a little trinket made him so, so happy. He was so excited he couldn’t even get words out, just general happy noises. I remember thinking that it felt like the sun was shining extra brightly on me.”
Pidge chokes on a small and quiet sob, feeling the sentiment of that taking over her whole brain. She’s not alone in her reaction — Hunk has had tears streaming down his face for a while, and Shiro has his hand pressed tightly to the watery smile on his face. Keith lets out a deep exhale, eyes closed, letting the feelings wash over him. Coran has been openly weeping since Hunk opened his mouth, basically, and Allura is running her hands through her hair, like she does when she’s a little overwhelmed.

The team finding Keith's dad on the opposite side of the universe from earth was probably not on the list of things Lance expected. That list usually included intolerable food goo, some fighting, being hopelessly in love with his team leader who couldn't care any less, cool explosions... If he needs a new normal though, something to distract him from that third fact, he's glad it's Keith's hot as hell cowboy dad. Not his problem if Keith has an aneurism every time Lance mutters 'daddy' within 500 yards of him, and if Shiro seems weirdly pissed too? Well. That's not Lance's problem either.

So many beings shiver and die. Lance would be twenty now. He tries not to think about it.Keith can't bring himself to grieve when he knows Lance is still out there. Instead, he follows versions of him down holographic rabbit holes, trying to pry closure out of his memories, and losing himself to an obsession with the simulated landscapes where Lance was never lost.

Thus enters Lance, the new nanny. His job, technically, is to take care of Keith at all times. But seeing Shiro, how sad he is, how broken, prompts Lance to personally take over Shiro's life, trying hard to help him pick up the pieces of his life.

He lets them take out the frustrations on him. Encourages it really, because people need an outlet for their anger, and Lance has always been the best at making people angry at him.
(And if his heart twinges a little every time he has to let someone be particularly mean to him, then he just has to remember that this is what he's good at. What he's good for.)
But Lance is an older brother, and an uncle, and a younger brother. He learned sometimes keeping people means sacrificing his own feelings for a bit. He's been taught that he can't always let his feelings take a back seat though. After all, what happens if the rock falls apart?
So, while Lance is always prepared to be the enemy on any given day, there are certain days and certain things that he will not let fly.

Keith is nervous about the first Christmas since his mom was rescued after years of being a POW, and wants everything to be perfect.
Hunk, Romelle, and Lance have a side business called Paladin Pies making geeky themed desserts.
Keith remembers a tradition of having a specific ‘boozy blueberry cheesecake pie’ served with Christmas dinner, but he doesn’t know the recipe and only ever had one bite a year, because he was little.
Hunk and Lance have worked with Keith for weeks to perfect a pie that meets Keith’s standards.
Now it is Christmas morning and Lance and Keith are preparing for Krolia’s arrival in the afternoon to celebrate with them and are making the pie.
