Day 7: Soulmate AU and Weapons
"Who's that?" Dream heard Sapnap ask from the driver's seat.
"Bad, Sap, meet Goggles," Dream sighed. "World-class sniper, asshole criminal, and my soulmate. Apparently."
"What?" Dream heard his two teammates exclaim.
"You still have me on your file as codename Goggles?" George snickered. "Tell me you can't hunt down a sniper without telling me you can't hunt down a sniper," George mumbled sarcastically.
"Yeah okay," Dream rolled his eyes before loading his gun and shooting it in George's direction again.
The rules were very easy. Simply put, soulmates are not able to physically harm each other. Not fatally anyway. No punching, no hitting, no weapons as well including knives, guns, not even a baseball bat. Rules are still unclear about second-hand injuries like drowning and tripping, you know, convenient accidents.
Most of the time, this works out very well for people. You wouldn't want to fatally harm your soulmates.
But then again, most people weren't snipers whose soulmates are special agents that are out to get them.

“I could’ve,” Dream admits. “So many times.”
Sapnap stays quiet a moment, and while Dream sniffles, the little girl in his lap turns, taps against his face like the tears are common. Dream kisses at her hand, promises her he is okay. He acts like nothing is wrong. Like Sapnap isn’t crying in front of him too, when he should be scolding Dream.
“Why didn’t you?” Sapnap asks as he swipes the back of his hand over his nose. “I mean, not even George?”
The mention of their other friend brings Dream into a new reality. Soft, brown, messy hair on his screen, a grin that laughs and cheeks that turn rosy any time Dream teases him. A light squeal into his headset at the late hours of the night, once Dream is alone in his tranquility. George, the rough paper that sands Dream down. Warm, fluffy bread. Fuck, Dream thinks.
Dream decides to tell his friends about his daughter right before they move in.

“Alright,” George agreed, getting started again. His fingers flew over the keyboard as he clicked from one tab to another. And at that moment George looked almost as confident as Skeppy always did. “And there we go,” George said, the smile on his face bright and confident as he went to press the enter key to finish whatever he had just done.
For just a second Dream felt hopeful again, genuinely believing that they had finally done it. But it only lasted for that one second before George actually pressed the key, because as he did suddenly all the lights went out.

Summary
What George didn’t say - what he couldn’t bring himself to voice - was that the house felt suffocatingly small lately. Every corner of it reminded him that Dream’s departure date was creeping closer. He wanted to escape his own head. He wanted to avoid the looming reality that his light was leaving him. His sunshine. His colors.
To George, the world had always been a frustratingly dull palette. But ever since Dream had been around, it felt like the saturation had been dialed up. It was a stupid, poetic metaphor for a colorblind guy to have, but it was the truth: without Dream, everything just felt gray.

Dream goes on a solo trip to LA and George reels with the fact that he feels horrible without Dream by his side. The trip leads them both to realize that they wanted to put labels on what they are, so they do. And with that, George's vibrant world is restored.

Dream remembered vividly thinking that George had really nice lips. Also that her eyes were really pretty. And her freckles. And the cute way that her hair got all wavy around her shoulders. That was how George’s hair was now. Loose and bouncing slightly as she hurried across the gym towards the locker room, pulling her tennis bag along with her. Her bag was dotted in pins, and Dream had once tried to subtly look to see if she had any lesbian ones, but she had not been successful. The only two she had been able to actually see had minions on them – like the little yellow fucks – and she hadn’t been quite sure how to interpret that.
“She’s so hot,” Dream groaned, letting her head fall into her hands dramatically. Around them, the rest of the cheer team was still warming up.
“At least you didn’t do anything embarrassing this time,” Puffy pointed out helpfully.
