    In the year of 286 AC, just before the longest summer arrived, the greatest storm wrecked the lands beyond the wall. Trees broke and fell already frozen, ice was so thick a man could stand in a drilled hole and still not reach the water. The storm lasted three weeks and in its aftermath cities of heat and steel emerged from the snow. The greatest one called itself "New London" - a stronghold of human defiance to the sufferings of winter.
