Lando Norris is a cupid, which mostly means two things:
1. He has a yearly matchmaking quota.
2. He is profoundly tired of humanity.After surviving the statistical nightmare that was getting Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc together, Lando earns five blissful years off duty.
Unfortunately, those five years are over, his reserve is critically low, and he needs one massive assignment before his powers burn out completely.
Then he meets Oscar Piastri.Projected Match Difficulty: 10,000 points.
Oscar is immune to every romantic push, every engineered meet-cute, every carefully calculated compatibility test Lando throws at him.
Which was rude, honestly, but still manageable.
The real problem is that Oscar seems weirdly, catastrophically interested in Lando specifically.
Lando had planned for many possible outcomes. This was not one of them.

When Oscar began crying, it had nothing to do with whatever his mom was so upset about, and everything to do with the fact that the song was gone.
The song was gone, and now Oscar was shaking, and his head hurt, and he felt like he was missing something important, something he couldn't describe or communicate, even if someone had asked.or
Did sirens cry? Maybe Lando was crying, the song projected forlorn like it never had before. And even amid the beauty of his voice, there was something blaring about it. Was he screaming?
(or: Oscar meets a siren when he is only six years old. That was the beginning of the end.)

“Your Highness!”
“You can’t send Flo off to marry some random arse of a crown prince just so he can become king! It’s not fair when she still has a whole life in front of her!” he exclaims before briefly dipping into a bow. “Your Majesties.”
Behind him, Max falls to his knees, repeatedly begging the king and queen for forgiveness for the crude behavior of their son.
King Adam waves a hand at him to get him to be at peace before addressing Lando. “What do you propose otherwise, dear son?”
“Send me instead,” Lando blurts out without thinking. “Oli’s the heir, and I’m the spare. So I- I’ll marry this foreign prince.”

"I didn’t." he answers immediately, and Lando slumps into the chair from sheer relief. "He’s aware that in his… current conditions he shouldn’t travel. He’s not stupid, Lando, just desperate. But I told him about you."
"Me." Lando says flatly.
"Yes, about your research. And he would like to talk to you. See if you can help him figure out what’s going on with him."
"Me." Lando repeats again. "No. Why. Why?"

Lando's a folklore geneticist fresh out of his PhD. He bums around his shared flat in Berlin, goes on mental health walks, gets stoned regularly, and tries to convince funding bodies (and himself) that his research is worth supporting.
Oscar is a rising star in the world of motorsports who accidentally discovers himself to be the carrier of a previously unknown, but seemingly very dangerous Gene, which could easily end his career and potentially a few lives.
