Summary
Verso doesn’t bother knocking as he lets himself into Gustave’s workshop. He, the apprentices, Lune, Sciel, and Emma are the only ones allowed to bother Gustave when he's dans l’atelier with the door closed, as close to KEEP OUT as Gustave ever gets. It’s not a privilege Verso takes advantage of lightly, but the weather developing outside the Dome—weather that’s been brewing since before dawn—has him leaning on it now.
Or: Verso helps Gustave forge through a migraine--he's something of an expert at it by now, and he's not sure what that says about him. (Just hurt/comfort and Verso having Verso feelings.)

Summary
Technically Verso doesn’t need to sleep—he might die from sleep deprivation but he’ll always come back. Though deathsleep isn’t as restorative as you’d think, Verso tells himself it satisfies his sleep debt anyway.
(It really doesn’t.)
Or: Gustave is a werewolf, and somehow that's not even the weirdest part of Verso's long nightmare of a life. What's even weirder is that Gustave insists on taking care of him--like now, when Verso is stumbling on the cliff's edge of exhaustion and Gustave is more than willing and more than able to get Verso to sleep.
If it involves some extremely adventurous, shapeshifting sex, well, that's just a bonus.

Summary
He wonders what it is (about him, about Verso) that lets him call Verso back from where CHROMA’s taken him. He wishes he knew, because it’s getting harder. It’s been three times now that Verso has gone out and come back, and three times that Gustave has managed to remind him of who he is: you’re Verso Dessendre, I’m Gustave Auclair. We’re Gundam pilots, we’re on the same side, please—please come home.
He’s not sure if there’ll be a fourth.
Or: Verso and Gustave are Gundam pilots in the never-ending war between the Painters and Writers. Verso and Gustave each want the other to stop fighting that war--Verso because he believes Gustave is meant for better things, Gustave because he doesn't want Verso trapped in the endless cycle of death and rebirth the war and his parents impose on him--and they'll both do whatever they need to do to give the other peace.

Summary
He knew everyone here, some better than he’d thought he would, some faces well-known even if the souls behind them didn’t recognize him. Everything was quiet, unchanging except for the endless shift of the seasons, and he told himself this was what he needed to be happy.
So when Verso Dessendre saw a strange car, road-dusty with a number plate and rental sticker that announced its further strangeness, bouncing down the town’s ancient, cobblestoned main road, he was instantly suspicious.
Or: Verso Dessendre, acclaimed author and illustrator of the Esquie et ses amis children's book series, lives a quiet and isolated life in Vielle Lumière-sur-Mer for reasons he doesn't examine too closely. When a physics professor on sabbatical shows up in his sleepy backwater town, wearing the face of a man he watched die over a hundred years ago, the questionable peace Verso's found starts to become something else.

Summary
He tells himself, as he huddles over the campfire while the others sleep and tries to keep the pain inside, that it's for the best. Gustave was always already gone. Verso will end the Canvas and, if he doesn't, Aline will die and Renoir will destroy the Canvas anyway. The end, whatever form it takes, is close and Verso's lived with worse guilt for longer.
Or: Verso sacrifices Gustave, and his bond, to end everything and free his family. Only nothing (because he's Verso) goes as planned. Maelle wins, Gustave comes back, and so do the bleeding remnants of something that barely existed.

Summary
The Dread Pirate Verso being robbed by a beautiful merman once can be explained easily enough; mermaids are fast in the water, and it could happen to anyone.
...the second time, though? And the third?
The crew of the Lumière is starting to suspect that their captain might be into this.

Summary
Compared to losing his arm and then losing Sophie, reading a song Verso Dessendre had clearly written about being in love with someone else shouldn’t even register. To Gustave’s hopeless heart it was cataclysmic.
Or: Gustave's side of "Heartsong." When Verso gives Gustave a new song to sing just ahead of the final leg of their American tour, Gustave has to reconcile himself to the fact that he's singing the lyrics of "Mon Cœur" to some faceless person who's captured his lead guitarist's heart. It's much harder than he anticipates.

Summary
Of all the sights Verso Dessendre had expected to see when he stepped into an alley two filthy corners away from the rue Laplace, it was not this: an omega with his back to a medieval wall, sword held in one steady hand, holding two alphas at bay.
Or: It's midsummer in the Paris of the Belle Époque and Verso Dessendre's strange, half-lived life starts to change forever, while Gustave Auclair only hopes his changes for the better--and that the annoying alpha who's suddenly turned up to disrupt everything would just go away.

A series of mostly Gale-centric ficthings written for the Comfortember Challenge. I am extremely slow so this may end up being a Comfortanuary self-challenge as well.
All replies to the challenge will be posted in this work, so tags may (read: will) change. Not all chapters will be related to or follow from one another, so please read the notes/chapter titles for characters, pairings, and warnings.

Summary
The warmth woke him up, or brought him to the edge of waking so he hovered right at the brink of it, not quite able to tip over. It was something, he thought hazily, to luxuriate in, nothing to rush, this simple being in-between. On the other side of his eyelids the light was golden and insistent, and the bed was soft underneath him, and the body next to his was also soft but sturdy and a hand was sliding across his belly and—wait.
Or: Emmrich goes on vacation and makes some Questionable Choices. Written for the DA Kiss Week 2025.

Summary
“So I can have my knife,” Shirin held her patience with both hands, “but where will I keep it?”
“In your gown, of course,” Myrna said.
“IT HAS POCKETS,” Vorgoth boomed.
Or: the fancy dress ball we could have had but didn't because the world is an unfair place. Rook and Emmrich dress up all fancy and infiltrate Johanna Hezenkoss' ball to stop her nefarious plans.

Summary
“There are no illusions here,” Emmrich told her. He was halfway down the braid now, fingers weaving soothingly through her hair. “Not between us, my dearest one.”
Shirin let him finish the braid in silence, though words, kept back, thrummed in the tension of her shoulders.
“I’m just tired of it, y’know?” she asked, seeming to speak more to her reflection than to him. Anger crackled under her quiet. “Cleaning up the so-called gods’ mistakes, seeing innocent people pay for those mistakes over and over again.”
Or: Emmrich imagines a future for himself and Rook, and Rook tries to imagine that future too.

Summary
“All right.” Harding straightened her shoulders. “But I think I should also say I wasn’t entirely worried about you. I mean, that was a part of it, definitely, and I’m sorry for that.”
“What was the other part?” Shirin felt the last of her patience slipping through her fingers like reins about to drop. “Harding!”
It was Harding’s turn to look at her as if Shirin were the mad and perplexing one. “Emmrich, of course.”
Or: Rook finally gets tired of everyone making Assumptions.

Summary
There was no ceremony, only Emmrich raising his staff and one hand tracing a sigil in the air. Between the two the air solidified, took shape, and became a sphere of fire and incandescence. The center of it gleamed whitely, shading through yellow and orange and back to blue in the corona so it was as if Emmrich had the sun cupped in his palms, the only true piece of light in this place.
Or: Emmrich has a rough day. Rook decides to comfort him and they end up comforting each other. As is to be expected.
