"You know, if you want this thing to be more believable, you're gonna have to play your part, too," Derek said, dropping the cake on the counter.
"Excuse me?" Stiles said, offended. "I tried! Also, I'll have you know I am fun to be around. Plenty fun, alright? I'm, like, super funny!"
Derek hummed and his eyebrows twitched sarcastically. Could eyebrows be sarcastic? With Derek's caterpillars, the answer was definitely yes. Stiles swore they spoke a language of their own.
"You know what?" he said and impulsively took the cake. He opened the camera app on his phone. "I'll show you believable."
Stiles held the plate up and snapped a selfie of himself, the cake, and an adorably confused-looking Derek.
"What-"
"Midnight pie with my cutie pie," he spelled aloud what he was typing in the Instagram caption. "Tag Prince Derek, hashtag boyfriends, hashtag His Royal Cuteness." Ignoring Derek's bristle, Stiles hit 'send' and grinned, pleased with his post. Then he opened the drawer, fetched two forks and handed one to Derek. "Let's see how that goes." He winked for good measure. "Cutie pie."

“I don’t know, it’s just…” Derek trails off.
“Me being in a room full of alphas?” Stiles tries to help out with words.
“Yeah, but… but not only?” Derek sighs. Stiles waits patiently for his boyfriend to gather his thoughts. “You know, I’m always protective of you, but my wolf, it’s never been that anxious. I can’t describe it better.”
“We aren’t in a life or death situation. It’s just a Convention. I’ve met other alphas before, plenty of them and sure, I haven’t met them all at once, but still. Plus there are other omegas too,” he tries to resonate. “And I can look after myself. I’m not a damsel in distress.”
Seriously, Stiles is a smart omega, raised by a Sheriff. He’s a master of small talk. What can possibly happen, right?———
Where the pack attends a Werewolf Convention and nothing of what happens was on Stiles‘ bingo card. -

Stiles learns that even with werewolves, giant lizards and psychopathic hunters on the loose, life can still find other ways to screw with you. Case in point: everyone keeps assuming he and Derek are a couple. What the hell?

The sheriff watched him for a moment, then he sighed and turned slightly. He reached out to open a cabinet door beside him, and pulled out a shelf. It was on a track, so it rolled out of the cabinet fairly easily, and held a small CCTV. Derek frowned and inched his chair to the side a little bit so he could get a better angle.
He was looking at a teenager, or someone at least young enough to be the same age as Scott. He was sitting on a bed in what looked to be a larger room, the area he was in surrounded by four glass walls, with his legs crossed and head tilted.
He was also staring directly into the camera, as if he knew someone was watching. A creepy smile slowly slid onto the teen’s face, and he held up one hand, wiggling his fingers in a slow, eery wave.
Derek felt his mouth run dry. He didn’t know who this kid was, but he didn’t like him.
“Who is that?” he asked quietly.
“That,” said the sheriff, “is my son.”

Summary
In which Derek has been invited to the Greater Pacific Northwest Alpha Symposium (that's not what it's called, Stiles, stop saying that), and showing up unattached would mean an arranged marriage. When the rest of the pack objects, he agrees to let Stiles come along to pose as his mate. Derek is reasonably sure that he's not going to make it out of this weekend alive.
