“Your legs,” Ed replies, looking down Stede’s pointedly. “They’re great. Really…” Fuck, he’s spent so much time looking at Stede’s legs and thinking about them. Why can’t he describe them? “Really nice. Fantastic. Amazing.”

Stede was already fully dressed whilst Ed was still flouncing around in nothing but his trousers. Stede found himself zoning out staring at him, ludicrously impressed and proud of himself for landing such a man.
“Do you mind? I’m a married man” Ed teased over his shoulder. As he bent to grab the shirt he discarded in a haste the night before.
“Hang on a sec, I’m enjoying the view” Stede teased warmly, he held onto Ed’s hips keeping the pair of them stood gazing at each other lovingly. The pair stood, just taking each other in, enjoying the quiet of the morning. Only for a moment.
“I could stay here all day, like this” Ed mused, a sweet smile on his face as he tucked an unruly blonde curl behind Stede’s ear.
“Me t-“
BOOM!
“What the fuck was that?” Ed was instantly on high alert.
“I dunno but you better pop your top on”

After a chance encounter with someone from Stede's past, some of the crew realize that they don't know as much about him as they thought they did.
So they do the sensible thing and, rather than asking Stede, mount a detailed investigation. Tragically, they're several hundred years too early to start a podcast.

Stede learns to be a sailor, a pirate, a Captain, and, just maybe, the kind of person he wants to be, all on the way to finding Ed.
(The kind of person he wants to be will end up committing mild insurance fraud, exploding a ship, doing some light indirect murder, and making some truly questionable choices while on laudanum, but that will come later.)
