Shauna frowns, but says nothing.
“That means you don’t tell Jackie, either,” Nat says. “If that’s going to be a problem, then let me know and we can both start rehearsing for the spring musical now.”

Summary
Lottie blinks, unwavering still. Her gaze is like a hunting fox, straight-edged and wide, digesting every minute movement that Shauna or her girlfriend make. It’s pointless; no one moves. The music has stopped itself, the clicking of a finished tape going unnoticed during their conversation. The grandfather clock in the corner ticks away. It’s the only proof that time still moves.
Despite the embarrassment — or what should be embarrassment — of the situation at hand, Shauna’s cheeks are delightfully neutral. No redness blooms across her chest. She’s stagnant and thoughtful, gaze set as it bores into Natalie’s.
If Shauna had blinked, she would’ve missed the slight twitch of Lottie’s wrist towards Natalie’s thigh, dangling precariously off the edge of her couch and trespassing close to the mouth of Lottie’s chair. Shauna doesn’t know whether it was born out of approval or deescalation, but she doesn’t care to know the intricacies of their relationship.
She just wants to get fucked.

Deb’s words rattle around Jackie’s skull as she stands outside the hospital room. The plain wooden door seems to mock her. Why can’t she grab it? Why is she just standing there?

Jackie's appendix ruptures the morning she's supposed to board the plane to Nationals. The flight never makes it to Seattle. Two years later, rescuers find the team alive, and Jackie thinks her nightmare is finally ending. Except the Shauna that returns to their hometown is not the same as the one who left.

Summary
Shauna wasn’t okay.
She was actually nowhere near okay. If okay was the goal, she wasn’t just missing it. She was sprinting off the field completely and stumbling up the bleachers, smacking the unlucky bastards in the aisle seats on her way. Jackie was still getting the hang of the whole death thing, but it was beyond evident that being the dead one was much easier than being the one left behind.
OR
Jackie didn't leave the woods when she died. Laura Lee is a few steps ahead of her in this whole navigating being a ghost thing, but Shauna is falling apart quicker than Jackie can pick up the pieces.
