Gideon burst into Harrowhark’s room at 10 pm on a Wednesday. “I’m going to kill myself tomorrow,” she said. “I have money. I can blow it all. You can’t change my mind.”
Harrowhark stared up at her from where she was lying on the floor. She had her arms crossed over her stomach, heels gently touching. Corpse pose. Gideon’s voice raised in a manic desperation: “Do you – do you want to do anything?”
“Griddle,” Harrow stared at the ceiling, “it’s nearly midnight. Go find Tridentarius if you want someone to throw away your life with.”

Gideon Nav carefully makes her way down the stairs, leaning her shoulder against the cold stone walls. She keeps her silence down the hallway - watches the cold fog of her breath trail away behind her- and shuffles to a stop by the side of the only occupied prison cell in the Ninth. The woman inside it is crumpled against the wall, breathing heavily. Her tangled red hair drapes over her face; Gideon has never seen it.
“Mom,” she whispers, “they hit me.”
The woman says nothing.

Summary
Atsumu comes from a long line of vampire hunters. It's what he was born to do. He and his brother have sworn to protect the city of Osaka from the demons stalking its streets at night, and for most of their lives they've done a really good job.
It's tough, then, that one of his best outside hitters turns out to be a vampire.
Atsumu is nothing if not resourceful, though, and he knows he can figure out a way to keep Sakusa Kiyoomi both on the team and off the streets.
It's possible. It just may not be smart.

“Harrowhark,” says Father Gaius, rolling the sounds around his mouth with the air of an unintentionally patronizing uncle. “That’s quite a…vivid name.”
“It reflects my late parents’ wish for me to free their community from the hell of Earthly temptation before the new millennium,” she explains in a deadened tone. If the pastor correctly hears free as a euphemism for lead in mass suicide, he gives no indication. “They believed my birth was prophesied.”
“Now, that would have been an interesting tidbit to list in your qualifications.” He grins, brandishing her resumé; when the joke falls utterly flat, his grin falters into something more pathetic. “The charismatics do tend to get carried away, don’t they.”
In the year 2000, Harrow gets a job at John Gaius's church, meets his handsome and pious daughter, and things go to Hell in a handbasket.

You wouldn’t call it comforting. It would imply a need for reassurance. Rather, having this certainty is necessary to focus on everything else that needs to get done. You need a solid base to build a project. Tennis Ball’s admiration is just that.
Or: When everything feels outside of your control, even certainties aren't safe from doubt.
