Summary
She's never been great with bedsides. Sure, she's lost before; her grandfather, then her parents, one after the other. Her grandmother died a few years later. None of it has made it any easier for her.
She doesn't know how people do it. How they can sit there beside someone who has a few weeks, days, hours, minutes to live, and just -- know what to say. She never knows the right thing to say. She's always made things worse.
This is the first time she thinks she might have done something right.

Carl had never really believed in ghosts. Until he saw one with his very own eyes.
He sucked in a breath as he approached Grace’s headstone, seeing someone who could only be described as the ghost of Dr. Grace sitting in front of it with his head in his hands. Whispering something under his breath.
Against his better judgment, he called out. “Grace?”

Carl goes to visit the grave of an old friend. The last thing he expects to see is Grace's ghost sitting in front of his own grave.

She opened her mouth to protest, but Colt cut her off. “The guy you fell in love with died in a horrific accident. I’m what’s left,” he scoffed, pointing at the door. “If you don’t like it, you can leave. There’s the door.”
"I know that’s not true because he’s standing right in front of me-” she gestured towards him- “and I wish he’d let me help him instead of trying to force me away. And I don’t know why he’s being so stubborn about it.”
Colt leaned back, his hair falling over his eyes. He’d been letting it grow out since the accident, refusing Jody’s offers to help him cut it. She couldn’t tell if he liked it like that or if it was just another symbol of him trying to separate himself from who he was before the fall. Define his life into two distinct parts, a before and after.
Jody had a sinking feeling that the “after” wasn’t meant to include her.

People don't usually grow wings. Some people don't even believe that it ever actually happened. Until the end of the world comes skating along a line of Infra-Red light, and now there are two people with wings at the same time and unable to be dismissed as legend or allegory.
Eva Stratt believes that hope is the thing with feathers. Ryland Grace would very much prefer not to have them at all.
