AU where troll refugees are sent to Earth to escape the turmoil of a species undergoing social reform. Karkat is one of said refugees and, tragically, that means he has to deal with human high school, which is only marginally better than being killed on his home planet.

(Living in a fishtank is only the second worst thing about the experimental labs of Hidden Sound.)
