“Oh, she is stoned stoned,” Mira says.
Zoey's eyes are alight with mirth, but they soften with something fonder. “Okay, but why is she so adorable?”
“Because she's Rumi,” Mira sighs. “We should probably take her to bed.”
Zoey's face turns dramatic, clutching fake pearls around her neck. “You wanna bone now? In her current state?”
“Not like that, dumbass!” Mira snaps back, but her reddening cheeks remove any bite from her words.
“I think I'm tilting.”
Both girls’ attention returns to Rumi, who, unsurprisingly, is not tilting.
So she purrs. What about catnip?

Summary
From the moment Rumi was born, Celine moulded her to be King of Great Joseon. Rumi was smart, athletic, and capable, nearly perfect except for one glaring deficiency—Rumi was a girl. Celine hid this secret from everyone, raising Rumi as a boy and fooling the entire kingdom into believing that their king was a man. Mira fully digs her heels into the ground now, firmly shaking her head. “Absolutely not.”
“What?” Zoey teases, nudging Mira’s shoulder. “What’s wrong? Are you...too scared? Is that a—is that a chicken I hear? Somewhere off in the distance?”
“Zoey,” Mira warns, head swivelling toward her, eyes narrowing sharply.
“Bawk bawk,” Rumi mutters under her breath, and Zoey practically howls with laughter at how quickly Mira’s head snaps toward Rumi instead, throwing her head back as she desperately grabs onto Mira’s arm to keep herself from falling over.
Unfortunately for Rumi, Zoey was the one who got the warning, which means Mira is in full fight mode now. That’s immediately demonstrated by Mira letting go of Zoey’s hand to start attacking Rumi, arms wrapping around her neck to pull her into a headlock. Zoey can only stand there and roll her eyes, watching as Rumi shifts their weight, hooking an arm around Mira’s waist, hosting her up into the air so it looks like she’s being carried bridal-style rather than attempting to choke Rumi out.

“Umma,” Nari whispered in awe, her fingers tracing lightly along Mira’s skin, “you have patterns too… like Momma.”
It took Mira a second to process what she meant. She glanced down, finally realizing her daughter’s little hands were resting over the faint stretch marks that curved softly along the sides of her stomach.
“Oh,” Mira breathed, letting out a quiet laugh, “these aren’t patterns, plum.”
Nari blinked up at her, clearly unconvinced, waiting for more.
“They’re called stretch marks,” Mira explained gently, resting her own hand over Nari’s to guide her tiny fingertips. “When you were in my belly, you kept growing… and my stomach grew with you so you’d have more room. The marks showed up as my skin stretched to make space for you.”
Nari’s small brows furrowed, processing that with deep toddler concentration. Her fingertip traced along one of the faint silvery lines, feather-light and curious.
“I was in here?” she asked softly, glancing up at Mira like she was confirming the biggest secret in the world.
Mira’s chest warmed, a quiet ache pressing behind her ribs. She nodded slowly. “Mhm. The whole nine months.”

For the past seven months, Mira and Zoey have been obsessed with the idea of getting a clear photo of Spider-Woman, Seoul’s very own superhero. In the beginning it was for their university photography course, but every photo they managed to take of her was a blur.
