Summary
“Shane Hollander,” Rozanov says in his deep, thick accent.
“Rozanov,” Hollander nods. His voice cracks embarrassingly so he keeps talking, hoping the other man won’t notice. “Just came up here to get some air. I didn’t see a sign saying not to so I think we’re allowed. It’s chilly, eh? But a beautiful view,” he rambles.
“Ah yes,” Rozanov says flatly. “London, Ontario. Famous view.”
Shane can’t tell whether he’s being sarcastic. He probably is. He’s kind of an asshole, Shane thinks to himself, not for the first time. But an asshole who makes Shane’s stomach do weird things. Things that he wants to experience again so that he can properly label them. For science.

What if last year's Hockey Canada sexual assault trial happened in the Heated Rivalry universe, not with the 2018 gold medal team but with Shane Hollander's 2009 team? A nearly decade-long situationship with consent king Ilya Rozanov makes the Hollander who walks into the courtroom in 2017 a very different man from the boy who ran out of the hotel room all those years ago.

“What happened that night was fucked, Mom. I’m sorry to swear but it’s true. And stuff like that happens all the time, you don’t even know! You talk about these things like women are just liars who are going after innocent men, but these men aren’t fucking innocent! Most of the guys in hockey, even on my team… shit is really bad. Way worse than even the news makes it seem. Worse than you can imagine.”
Yuna stops walking and looks at him. Really looks at him. His gaze drops to the pavement beneath their feet, he doesn’t want to make eye contact. He wonders if he said too much. If he should have let her continue being delusional, continue seeing her beloved sport through rose-coloured glasses, a lifetime spent on the sideline and never in the rooms where violence was laughed about and people –women– like her were assaulted, abused, silenced, and forgotten about.
She takes a deep breath. There’s a glimmer of tears in the corner of her eyes. “I think I’ve spent so much time trying to support you to get into those rooms that I was never allowed in, that I never stopped to think that… that maybe things in those rooms weren’t so good.”
“He didn’t mean it in a judgemental way, it’s not that he assumes you’re a terrible person. But he and I have had a number of conversations since then and, well, you know your dad. Still waters run deep. Like you.” She reaches up and touches his face. “Even though things have come a long way since he was playing at McGill in the 80s, hockey is hockey and he says some things never change. The way men in hockey talk about women hasn’t changed. It’s quieter now, probably. People have the media training and good sense to not be so vocal about their beliefs. But, as you say, in locker rooms and places where they think they won’t be overheard… well. It’s been quite the learning journey for me, to listen to your dad’s old stories.”
“I can get in touch with the advocates from the trial, unofficially of course and without using my name, but we do want to make sure that whatever we do feels supportive for the young woman, she’s been through enough.” Yuna says this matter-of-factly as though she’s always been a fierce survivor advocate and did not used to say horrible things about golddigging girls. “And Farah is a godsend, getting things finalized with Ottawa so quickly. Did she tell Montreal about the texts in order to get leverage?”

Summary
“My dearest Fanny!” William Price burst forth. “You will not believe it! I am to be a lieutenant. My friend Captain Linton has spoken for me. As soon as he is to have a ship I am to be his lieutenant!”
It was impossible that Fanny’s spirits should be as high as his, but her felicity might well have surpassed his. She listened to him with tears of joy in her eyes and could not express her pride in his accomplishments nor her gratitude for this long-awaited promotion in terms warm enough to suit her feelings.
William was jubilant. To Captain Marshall he had been a favourite in the way only a steady, dependable midshipman could be, but to Captain Linton he was a friend. Now at last he would be in the way to make his fortune. Never in his life had he felt such triumphant satisfaction and if only he would be granted an opportunity to introduce the Captain to his sister before they returned to sea, he would have nothing to wish for.

Summary
“It was Aegon,” His brother indicted him with a curled lip.
All eyes turned on him and it was as if Aegon was among them, staring at his own dumbstruck face. “Me?” He asked.
I think the fuck not, something gut-deep supplied in answer.
***
Aemond throws Aegon under the bus, so Aegon backs the bus over their entire cause and runs over it twice.

He was not as completely stupid as she called him; he was smart enough to not want to be king, for a start. “I’m more valuable to Rhaenyra alive. As valuable as seven kingdoms, Mother! So long as I am alive and call her queen, you and Grandfather can’t press Aemond and Daeron’s claims in my stead. She will keep me alive and happy for all my days if it means crippling you.” He smiled at the brilliance of it all.

“Did you switch banks?” she couldn’t stop herself from asking.
Shane blinked as he looked down at his card. “Oh. No. I just opened a new account.”
“Why?”
Yuna could tell from the look on Shane’s face that it was none of her business.
“Aren’t you the one that keeps telling me it’s important to diversify?” Shane teased, but Yuna could sense a hard edge in there somewhere. “Don’t put your eggs all in one basket and all that.”
“Well, yes, but now you’re with three banks,” she questioned.
“I need three banks to hold all my money, apparently,” Shane muttered under his breath.
Yuna didn’t understand what he meant, but it almost looked like he was trying not to smile. “Is there a problem with –”
“No,” Shane cut her off.
Yuna waited, expecting him to say more, but he didn’t. He just walked her to her car and hugged her goodbye, watching as she drove off and back home. She looked through her rearview mirror and saw Shane pull out his phone and turn to his own car, wondering why he bothered with a third bank.

Yuna tapped the keys a little too hard.
Your password is incorrect or this account doesn’t exist. Please reset your password.
She auto filled the log in on her laptop, frowning when she got the same error message.
“Are you trying to break it?” David asked as she tapped the enter key repeatedly in frustration.
“It’s saying my password’s wrong,” Yuna complained.
“Did you change it?” David asked.
“No,” she said, trying not to grit her teeth. As if she would forgot she had changed a password. The laptop would remember and save it, anyways.
“Does someone else have the login?” David asked as he wandered out of the living room into the kitchen.
Yuna chewed on her lip as she considered. Shane’s personal accounts were still with the Bank of Montreal. His business contracts, his investments, that was all with the Royal Bank of Canada. She checked, still able to log into that account, at least.
Shane had changed his personal banking account.
That was fine; she rarely checked it, and she didn’t need to check it. Shane was an adult, and his money was his own.
Yuna was just curious about the why of it all.

Summary
“Am I a bad friend?”
Hayden has always been the guy Shane joked with, the guy he trusted to feed him without mocking him, the guy he roomed with on the road, and Shane is the only man who has ever seen Hayden cry, and Hayden loves Shane. He fucking loves him. They are like brothers, and they have been for almost ten fucking years. He’s always been Shane’s guy, Shane’s best friend.
Except all along, maybe that wasn’t true. Ilya Rozanov, apparently, had been the guy. Before Hayden had ever met Shane, Ilya Rozanov had been there. And Hayden had never even noticed.
Shane is all over every inch of Hayden’s life. Hayden thought that was reciprocal.
